How often do you change your oil/What octane do you run?

5,000 miles synthetic
i change my oil myself sometimes but they make it tough these days. oil, filter, 30 mins, and dealing with oil in the driveway/disposal - makes the $55 synthetic w filter job from my local midas pretty enticing lol. ill get their synthetic oil job for $55 but they do have a european synthetic option for sport cars and whatnot, which i think is overkill for my ride. im loving my v6 runner and 87 octane, just got out of a wrx 93 octane. costs me about $10 to fill my 5 gallon larger tank and gets about 4 mpg worse mileage

Lucky you! I’m running 93 octane in my V8 since 91 or higher is recommended from Toyota and it costs me about $40 to fill up from half a tank haha, but no car payment, so it makes up for it.
I change my oil myself all the time cause I like making sure it gets done right, with the right amount, etc. But wasn’t sure if 3,500 miles is overkill.
i hear you. for non synthetic 3-5k miles is probably fine...with synthetic you could prob go towards 7500 miles but i choose to change 5000 with mid grade synthetic of w.e. from midas.
those v8s are nice and still get decent mileage. i have heard a lot of people running 87 in those too keep in mind - could be worth looking into $$
I change my oil every 10000 miles or one year with AMSOIL Synthetic and the AMSOIL EAO filter.
saves me a lot of time under there. never had a problem. I am now at 136000 miles.

In the manual that comes with the V8 models Toyota recommends running 91 octane or higher, though 87 CAN be used. I believe the 91 octane or higher is mainly for improved performance, but I’ve always liked running the “richer” fuel in it

I've always been curious of this myself. I thought I remember reading in the owner's manual that the V8 was recommended for use with 91 octane, but I'd have to go back and look.
Per the Owner's Manual p339:
Fuel type:
Unleaded gasoline, Octane Rating 87
(Research Octane Number 91) or higher.
For improved vehicle performance, the
use of premium unleaded gasoline with
an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane
Number 96) or higher is recommended.

Thanks for the actual quote, was just about to grab my manual and look for it myself.
I know it probably doesn’t make a huge difference, but I’ve always just liked running 93, especially since it’s the same engine in the GX470 and it’s required to run premium. Just makes me feel better haha

My next oil change is going to be at 10,000 miles. I will be sending it in for analysis at blackstone labs. I use Mobil One EP synthetic and there new 20k mile filter (I plan to change my filter with my oil at 10k miles). As for gas I use 87 octane. When I travel to higher altitudes I get the lowest octane available, I then fill up with higher octane before traveling back to lower elevations.

Nice! I’m just at 193k. There weren’t many service records for this vehicle before I bought it, but it was a One-Owner, so I’ve done as much as I can and keeping up with the fluids in it has always been a must! I just hate that it uses over 5 quarts of oil. First world problems

Every 3-4 months or so regardless of mileage. My rig spends a lot of time in low gears and high RPMs when we're out wheeling and it only goes short distances on weekends in between trips. I'm usually in the dirt every 2-3 weeks so it's peace of mind that the oil is in good shape.

05 V8 143k ...change every 5k or 4 months whichever comes first. ( every season ) Mobile 1 high mileage 5w30 with a OEM toyota filter.
I have tested the octane myth with math and gps several times in a few different times a year.
The engine can run 87 without harm
91 DOES make a difference in both responsiveness and about +3 mpg avg. This was a consistent difference in several trials over distance drives.
93 Does not make a difference over 91 at all.
Since testing-
For normal back and forth to work use I run 89 or 91 depending on station availability I end up at with little to no effect or difference. However On distance drives I run 91 or even 93 just because It makes me feel better lol

I shoot for a 7,500 mi OCI - but Im using Mobile 1 High Mileage full synthetic. I've done 2 oil analyses recently and both indicate everything is running well on my 175k+ mi v8 and that I could probably run the oil to a 10k mi OCI.
Get an oil analysis. Then you will know. I've used Blackstone a couple times and its been informative (Im not affiliated with them in anyway... just had 2 good experiences so far).

5K miles as per the maintenance schedule with full synthetic oil, and 87 octane per the manual.
Anyone putting higher than 87 in a V6 is just wasting their money. Don't take my word for it, there's plenty of corroborating research.
