How To Engage 4WD

OK, I know I have to go into neutral to get into L4WD. However, how do you disengage without grinding gears? I have tried coming to a halt, go into neutral, but when I try to go into High, I get grinding gears.

As long as you wait a few seconds after stopping and shifting into neutral you shouldn't have any problems. Try waiting a really long time like 20 seconds, if it still grinds, then I think something is wrong...

Make sure you are going from 4HI to 4LO (and back again) in one smooth motion, as stated if you are fully stopped, in neutral you shouldn't have any problems.

One time my automatic tranny/transfer case got confused and I couldn't get the transfer case out of neutral without grinding (I couldn't go to 4hi or 4lo). Here is what I did and I haven't had a problem since.

When your transfer case is grinding gears switching out of 4lo or neutral:
Turn the truck off.
Put the transmission in park.
Start the truck again.
Wait a few minutes.
Put the transmission in neutral and then try switching gears in the transfer case again.
