Hey everyone! I get a ton of questions and PMs about this so I figured I would just make a thread to show everyone. I made a custom rack for our company 4runner to mount our lights but this will work for any light bar. The base rack is a Yakima Load Warrior rack. I removed the wind visor but thats not always necessary. (Look below for other options!) I have since changed from the 41" XS to the 41" Curved Xtreme Series.
When I made this rack there weren't a lot of options out there. Nowadays, you can get tubular mounts for light bars that will be an easy install as well. Checkout Axia Alloys for those. There are other places that sell them as well.
FRONT:
What I used was a piece of flat plate steel from your local home depot or lowes and U-Bolts. for the front 41" XS LED Light bar. I cut the piece of flat plate down to size and used Ubolts to secure the plate to the back of the rack. Then I just drilled holes for the light bar mounts to secure them to the plate. Its really a simple idea/process and pretty easy for anyone to do.
SIDES:
I have two Bean LED Duallies on both sides, one spot and one flood. All I used to mount these were Ubolts from the mount that comes with the light to the bar on the rack.
REAR:
I Mounted a 30" Xtreme Single Row Bean LED light bar to the rear. Its low profile and has mounts that move across the bar to allow you to use existing holes if you have them. I drilled holes through the bottom tube to secure the mounts and then used steel stick putty to help secure the mounts since they moved a little bit. Its ugly but it works.
Other Options!!!
We did this on a buddies Yakima Mega Rack for his tundra. We kept the front wind visor on the actual rack and welded a piece of flat plate on the bottom of the rack behind the front visor. This allowed him to be able to mount the light in that first space behind the visor to deter from thieves. When he needs to use the light, he simply reaches up and lowers the visor to reveal the 41" light, when its not in use he simply puts the visor back up. This will also help out with wind resistance a little bit.
We did the same thing essentially to a buddies 4runner with his Load Warrior. He had a 31" Xtreme Series mounted up there. [MENTION=50563]helo-mech[/MENTION] can you post up some pics please?
I dont have any pictures of the mega warrior unfortunately but the reason he went with the 41" on that is because a 50" is too wide to fit within the rack. Same reason Helo-Mech had to use a 31" instead of a 41" light on the Load Warrior rack. Ive had another customer use a 50" on the front of the mega warrior with a similar mounting system as mine.
