How to replace a broken lug on wheel?

I am not exactly sure what is called but while taking the lug nuts off one of my front wheels I broke off one of the studs or lugs. I remember when I had my Camry I could hit it from the outside and it would come off then put the new one from the back and hammer it until it's in place. Is it the same way for the 4runner? Do I have to take off the rotor or just taking the wheel should be sufficient? Thanks:bash:

Wheel stud replacement is pretty straight forward. Yes, you will need to remove the rotor in order to access the hub. If you are removing a rear rotor be sure to release the parking brake because of the drum-in-disc setup. The broken stud will pop out with a few taps from a hammer and punch.
Hammering from the back is not the best way to install a new stud. Simply get a nut and washer with the same size and thread pattern. As the nut tightens it will secure the new stud in the hub.

I know some advise against it but I put some permatex anti seize on my lug nut studs so they never seize. I know it effects the torque settings but I ike getting them off without breaking.

What exactly is the Permatex supposed to do?

It prevents the lug nuts from seizing onto the studs. They sell it at any auto parts store. Just a slight amount on the stud threads will work.
