How to Tow a 2006 4x4 4runner Cross Country

Hey all, we are moving cross country and we are trying to figure the best way to get our 4runner out there. We are renting a uhaul for the move and uhaul says we would be able to use a tow dolly to tow the truck. I believe I would have to remove the driveshaft. Can anyone tell me what goes into removing the driveshaft and if this is all that would need to be done? Thanks.

Don't remember specifically but there is a section in the owner's manual that covers towing.

It should fit onto a uhaul auto transport trailer, did you inquire about that option? Removing the driveshaft is simple, just a matter of a few bolts.

i'd refer to the manual. i'm not sure if the full time 4x4 models would need anything additional or not.

Do I need to pull the drive shaft all the way off. I read a few things about people undoing certain bolts and then zip tying the drive shaft to the bottom of the truck?

Safer to pull it off completely while you're under there. If that zip tie fails you're going to have a whole wealth of other serious issues.

The Uhaul site says that the auto transport trailer will work. I would ditch the dolly and go that route. Safer, easier to tow, less wear on your t4r, no prep work needed, much lower risk.

Oh, cool I think I'll go with that option. For some reason the first time I put the 4runner into Uhaul that option didn't come up.
