How will the 2018 model affect resale ?

I'm looking at two 5th Gen options right now:

-2015 SR5 35k-miles $25.5k
-2016 Trail Premium New $38k

With the new 2018 coming out, I'm sure jealousy will kick in and I'll want to trade up.

What do you think will devalue more in 2-years....the new TP or the used SR5?

Keep in mind that I put on very minimal miles per year (like less than 5k)...I plan on doing a light lift / wheels to either vehicle I get.

In researching prices, it seems that the pre 2014 runners go for noticeably less than the newer ones.

Thoughts?

I'm planning to wait and see what the '18 turns out to be. If I don't like it there should still be unsold '17s or gently used '16s available.

Aftermarket support isn't far behind. I think manufacturers send plans to certain companies. Hehe *I think* so I am open to bring wrong

Value impact is pure speculation. If the new model is awesome, the previous gen will feel the hit. I've been eyeing preowned LS460. Since the LS500 was announced, late model LS460 have suddenly been discounted ~10%.

Oh the other hand, if the newer model is somehow changed for the worse (say, going to unibody and a turbocharged 4-banger), then the gen 5 may be more attractive and retain better value by comparison to straight time depreciation.

So, we really can't answer the question until we know what the gen 6 features.
 
If gen 6 has the 3.5 and tranny combo that the Tacoma has be prepared to sell body parts to get a 3ed 4th or 5th gen.

Damn things are going for 36k with 40k miles here in CO.

Since vehicles like the 4runner last so long

the demand for used ones should remain pretty stable. I bought my 00' in 2010 for 10k. I probably dropped around 2k into it, put around 40k miles on it and then sold it for near 9k 4 years later. I could have got more for it b/c it was perfect. But i was afraid that with that much into it, if i ever got hit the insurance would deem it it salvage and pay me 3.5k and id be out the rest of it so i decided to sell it.

You would think toyota would grow a pair and put a V8 back in it seeing as how Suv and trucks are all people want. Refuse to buy another V6 turd. I seen the equivelent 4runner in australia that is unibody. Nice looking but to girly. Need something with some balls and bold looks.

I want to get a 4runner and I am torn between the 5th gen v6 or looking for a 4th gen v8 sports edition :-(
