Humming Noise from Front End

Update:
Truck was in on Wednesday Mar 27 for repairs. They repaired the front differential and rear propeller drive shaft due to the two TSB's associated with each. I dropped it off, but it was done in about 4 hours. No problems whatsoever, and it appears (so far) to have fixed both issues. Only minor inconvenience was I got a call early the next morning from the dealer who told me they forgot to put one bolt back in the differential. So, I had to drive back out there again the next day and they took care of it right away. Oh well, mistakes happen. Hopefully this is the last of these issues, but I think the dealer did right by me.

I had the same issue with my 2010 T4R trail. I believe because I was armed with the TSB information provided by this forum I was able to cut to the chase with my dealer. Thanks a bunch!!!

My dealer had my truck for a week and now I’m back on the road with no rumble noise what so ever. It made a difference in the ride quality and I’m very happy with the results. This is what was on the receipt:


“Excessive clearance in front differential causing noise
Replace front Differential and left front axle due to abnormal wear”

So it seems some forum members had additional issues and/or the noise came back. If it happens again I will be force to consider selling and/or trading this vehicle. I hope it does not come to that because I otherwise like this truck.
 
Curious if anyone has experienced this issue recently?

I have 91K miles on my 2011 SR5 and this noise just started kind of out of the blue a few weeks ago. Anyone have success getting a TSB taken care of at no charge while out of warranty? This one doesn't look cheap for new front diff and half shaft. Not expecting any miracles, but I am willing to ask. Thought I would check experiences here.

Or maybe even better yet, does anyone know what the specific issues are that cause this front differential growl? It looks like the TSB recommends replacement of the entire front diff carrier assembly and at least one of the half-shafts. That's ~$2K in parts alone, so we are likely looking at a $3K repair at the dealer.

Depending upon what the actual issue is, I would think an independent axle service shop could replace the offending bearing, or even R&P, much cheaper than $3K.

Any wisdom from the mechanical/tech gurus here?

I am in discussions with ECGS as we speak. Will circle back with conclusions.
