First day at my new job with the local minor league baseball team, and my runner gets broke into while I'm at orientation. GPS (which was locked in the glovebox, they/he/she were able to open it), RAM iPhone mount and a realllllllly old radar detector stolen. Whoever did it used a brick, and there was glass everywhere. Stuff from my center console was strewn about, and the glovebox was hanging open even though I locked it.

Moral of the story, you can't be too careful. I'll probably be taking the faceplate from my head unit into work where I can lock it in my locker.

Just thought I'd share an unfortunate reality and hopefully save someone the time and trouble of having the same thing happen to them.

Maybe a poor choice of words, the fool is the one who broke into your truck. Maybe you could use the word violated. My truck was broken into about 2 years ago, I felt violated. All the things I had stored away in the console and glove box where tossed all over the truck as the person searched for anything valuable. The one thing that was stolen was an Ipod, easily replaceable. Life goes on though. My sympathies, its not a good thing to have happen to you.

What he said. If all you lost was a couple hundred dollar GPS then you didn't do too bad. Depending on your insurance policy you're not out anything. Now if you had 5k worth of stuff that you lost in your vehicle then maybe you should feel like a fool.
 
I loathe thieves. That's one crime where I wish we would go back to the more archaic forms of punishment.

We need more archaic forms of punishment for a lot of things. Theft, rape, murder, etc. Maybe if people were afraid of losing a hand or other body parts they would think twice about doing certain things.
 
I agree, violated is probably a better term. 9 or so cars sitting up there and only my truck got touched. It truly does ruin your innocence. How am I supposed to work, at a job I was looking forward too so much if all I can think about is my truck getting broke into again. I know this sounds kinda paranoid, but I know it will bug me, especially since my boss mentioned it happened twice last year.

It's just bothersome.
 
I do agree. Thieves, murderers rapists etc need to be dealt with accordingly. Make an example of them or try to at least.

If this is the third time maybe they could put up a couple of cameras, doesn't have to cost a fortune.
 
I've had one car stolen and stripped, I also had two other cars broken into and stereos stolen. It sucks but that's the sad times we're living in. People just don't want to work for their own things.

This would make sense, except (and I should have mentioned this when I said there had been prior break-ins) the lot is not owned by the stadium or team. It's just a gravel lot we are permitted to use as part-timers for the team. It still seems crappy and one would think the baseball team would try to find a better place to do this. Their old stadium was in a wayyy worse part of town and i went to several games without any issues, but also all parking was right next to the stadium, not on several different lots around the area like the new stadium

That sucks. It really could have been so much worse, but it still kept me up last night. You couldn't be more right about the people who hate to work. 2 jobs and trying to get my degree, but what can you do.

This is a good idea. I might install one of these as future theft prevention.
 
had a couple of cars in my family broken into and its not even the feeling of violation, its more of the feeling of helplessness. I always wished to myself i couldve been there to do something about it.:AK47: Try to break into my truck if im around, you know what i mean? anyway, i mainly hate the fact that there wasnt anything i couldve done. Invest in a car alarm, i recommend it.
 
Just as a follow up, I am having a Viper Alarm and Remote Start system installed, as well as having my front windows tinted. I know the latter won't do much to keep thieves away, but it could help in addition to keeping the truck cooler and maybe keeping the glass from shattering too bad if some dumb:censored: tries this again.

I'll post a review of the alarm system once installed. Model is Viper 5701.
 
I called garmin support and got a pretty hardcore no. Apparently it doesn't send a GPS signal it only receives one. That was disappointing to say the least.
 
actually dude window tinting does a lot to keep thieves away.

I would say that doing the following instead of a Viper alarm would be best:

1) window tinting 35% front, 25% rear
2) truck club
3) blinking LED, $5 on ebay or Amazon (assuming you don't have factory alarm)
4) fuel cutoff switch (easy, google it)
5) reflective sun visor in the front windshield (this further reduces any light into the vehicle)

Doing all this will go a loooooooooooooooong way to preventing a break in.
