So, I got bored one day and decided to rip out the intake
Ducting that is hidden up in the passenger fender. I dont have plans on ever doing a snorkel so I figured why not
Remove. The last piece that sits in the engine is a 90 degree elbow that points back towards the door. After looking at it closer I said to myself why not flip it towards the headlights and act as a "scoop". So I unbolted it and just rotated it in the fender and snugged the bolts back down. It's been that way for a while with zero issues. May not do a damn thing but it's all about the placebo effect sometimes. Free mod and worth a shot.

The elbow is what they say restricts airflow, so you’re best off just removing the elbow all together.

Yup, this. Although you're not drawing air from the elbow with the cone filter that's installed. Since the elbow is tucked in behind the fender there's not much of a ram air affect.

Check out Gadget's dyno testing of removing the elbow: Air Induction. Yes, the site is old but that's because this was done when these 4Runners were rather new!
