I need an axe....

Why is this so popular? The GB small forest axe has nearly a cult following on Youtube. I know it's a quality tool, but it's smaller than a full size axe, so it's not as good at axe things. It's similar to the Husqvarna 19" carpenter's axe I have, but I believe a bit lighter. What is it good for?

Take my answers with a gain of salt since I don't know what you want to do with it.

The GB SFA is a decent multi use axe. Other than the quality, it's not the end all be all. I have 3 GB products and 2 Fiskars. Just depends on what you're going to do with it 90% of the time

You know, I've long felt that my hatchet is a safer tool for most campsite operations than the shit I see people doing with knives in the woods.

I loooove my GB hatchet

I keep a hatchet in my recovery gear box, along with an e-tool. But a full size shovel and axe go on the rack when I'm going off road.

Having dug myself out with both the e-tool and a full size shovel, the full size tool is clearly the best option. Same with axe vs. hatchet.

Use the right tool for the task at hand

I have had an Estwing campers axe in the back of my 4runner's since the early 1990's. Love it. Great cutter, not so great for splitting as another member mentioned.

I have created many a wonderful campfire and cleared many a fine trail
with a Fiskar X15 and a Bahco 30" Bow Saw. (ESEE 4 for baton/camp duties.)

My friend just bought a Fiskars splitting axe and hatchet. I was pretty impressed with the price and quality.

I'm sure there is better out there, but that seems like a good starting place.

I role with a Gransfors Bruk Scandinavian Forest Axe and a Schmidt Pack Saw. I carry them both in my Frost River Axe and Saw Sling. All are fine, quality items and cost accordingly.

I gave up trying to see out my back window long ago! I have a feeling its only going to get worse. Honestly some sort of side/rear cams while driving on a monitor would be an awesome addition to an overland rig!

You may see me around sometime, I am actually living in Sweetwater, TN for quite some time (father is sick). I haven't seen many 4Runner near where I am at, but I see more when I go into Knoxville. I am trying to get more involved with TN peeps. I hope to make it to Dirt and Donuts, Im going to the camping trip coming up and then Overland East.......
