Ha yeah he already got it for ya! The only piece that does not include is some 10mm bolts and washers to mount the two relays. There are some empty 10mm threaded holes along the fender near the battery that you can simply put a bolt in with a washer and you're done. I don't recommend having them float around the engine bay. Zip ties can work in a pinch too but a bolt is better. It's a very easy install and you'll find you'll be spending more time neatly tucking in wires and making it look pretty than the actual installation.

DRL = positive switched system, no DRL = negative switched system. You'll need to know what you are working with... (I think all the '02's were DRL equipped, but not sure)

The sylvania Silver star lineup seem to be the best widely available option that I've found in the last 15 years regardless of make of car.
Honestly, from the older cars, I feel like the third GEN forerunner has some of the best headlights out there. Go roll in a 2nd or 3rd gen Dodge ram and then let's talk about crap headlights....lol.

I installed this set up on a 2001, it was a pos ( the 4runner) and sold it 6 months later with that retro fit on it. I was very happy with the light out put. So now my current 2000 i need to do the upgrade to it or install a light bar. I bought a light bar months ago but have not installed it. ( summer so 24 hours of daylight) However when I bought my current 4runner, it had leds....which were crap and I installed regular h4's. Problem is that when previous owner installed leds the rubber caps must not have fit so left off...and inside the lights are kind of dusty....not sure what to do about that.. guess I can take them off and swish some water around inside. Order new caps ( part # ?)
but like I said..i only ran that set up for a few months ( harness and bulb set up)..and left it in the 2001.and up here in winter I have 24 hours of dark. and moose think they own the roads so I need the light in a few months.
question...now that you have been running for years...does the extra heat of bulb effect housing or the rubber boots ?
I have my DRl's unplugged, will that effect anything ?

If you put some water and glass cleaner or just a bit of ammonia it'll clean things up nicely, just swish it around for a few minutes like you said. Ammonia is fantastic for cleaning glass (and jewelry).
The heat has not bothered either the housing or the rubber boots at all. I will say that I don't use my headlights hardly at all in the summer though. I could see if you have DRLs and lived somewhere hot that might be an issue over time but once you are moving at speed those headlights cool off pretty fast, just like the radiator. I could see it maybe becoming an issue in stop/go driving or slow speeds in the heat of the day but then again maybe not.
In the cold of winter though, no the extra heat isn't going to do anything 'cause it's too cold!

Sometimes, I wish our 4Runners had the old 6x7" sealed beams like the Ram, because there are outstanding aftermarket replacement 6x7's that are reasonably priced!

You can do retrofit yourself for much less than TEQ. There are plenty of write-ups you can reference. The upgraded wiring harness might not be a bad route (I don't have first hand experience) but I can't imagine it performs nearly as well as a proper retro fit.

You are the first person I have ever heard online or in person that has ever said that 3rd Gens have good headlights. I feel like you should win some sort of award for that comment.

The '99-'02 headlights were ok for the time (though they weren't aligned right on ours when my parents bought it!). There are plenty of worse headlight systems out there, mostly older models though.
These days, the reflector bowls are crusty and dusty, glass is pitted, etc. and don't represent what they were like new.
The fluted lens '96-'98, on the other hand...

It works fine when the headlights are on, but when it's only the DRL, the relays
both buzz noticeably. Don't know if there's a more correct kit, but I didn't know

It's all relative. They suck compared to my 23 tundra or 17 sienna. Miles better than my other truck.
Aimed, clean lenses, and a set of silver stars and in my opinion, my 99' 4Runner gives off great light. Like I said, I've been around way worse.
Perceptions have changed with the newer cars being so bright and so good though.

I tried new 96-98 fluted ones a few years ago then switched to new 99-02 units. IMO the 96-98's were only slightly inferior to new 99-02's. I keep the slightly used 96-98's as spares.
