Answers:

1 - Yes the Rhino-Rack Backbones mount the stock bolt-on locations (Backbone + Tpod Crossbars + Tent). No extra drilling is required. Please note - the Backbone is not included with the tent. It is an extra cost. But we will offer a nice discount if purchased with a tent.

2 - Total height measured from the peak of the roofline = approx 7.75". However...please be aware, your suspension will play a big part. So be sure to measure the total vehicle, for your garage...not just the tent. (My 2 cents).

This has already been announced. Opening price for the Kickstarter First Edition is $2850 (tent only). The price will go up following.

More information on custom options will be available on once it goes live. The RTTx is an all USA Made, handcrafted roof top tent designed to last.

This looks like a great design and really does address the issues that make me squeamish about RTTs: weight, mounting height, and frontal area when closed. Best of luck on the Kickstarter campaign! (But I doubt you'll need it.)
 
Congrats on the RTT launch. It looks great and wishing you success.
Just thinking ahead here, for long term maintenance and care. After such a big investment and hoping for long term use, do you have anything set up for repair/refurbishment? Especially for the fabric

Thanks bud! I really appreciate it. Really hoping more 4runner folks get involved. It was originally designed and built around that platform and really works well. Here's hoping the people want a quality, handmade USA built tent.

For mounting on a 5th Gen 4Runner you’ll need to purchase a Rhino Rack Backbone. Looking on their website, which one? All the vehicle names are Aussie-centric.

The RTTx can be mounted to existing racks. That said - the best low profile, low weight option is the Rhino-Rack Backbone.

Congrats on the development! Any chance this will work mounting on the pioneer platform? folks that are purchasing the backbone system will have an intention of putting on the pioneer platform. It would be a PITA to remove the platform to load the RTT.

Yes sir. It will work. You will need to slightly modify the rack to accommodate our generic mounting plates. The smaller platform is not applicable. Only the larger two versions will provide enough support for the tent.

Chad,

I sent you this question through the Kickstarter after I ordered, but figured those following along here might be curious as well. Can you give some more details about the two mesh options? What are the differences/benefits between the two? I live in Colorado, and camp mostly here and west. Not a huge bug problem most days. Just curious as to which would be best. Thanks, and can’t wait to get my tent!

HD Standard Mesh - the usual open mesh, good for air-flow and keeping the usual bugs out.

HD No-see-um Mesh - Primary need for this is beach camping and adventuring in northern territories where the nasty, tiny biting insects roam. Slight reduction in air-flow, but keeps those tiny biting insects out.

Every customer has the option for either at no additional cost.

Kickstarter Update: Don't Wait! The Introductory price is only for the First Edition Tents.

A reminder - we are using Kickstarter to jumpstart marketing to build awareness for Terrapod. That's pretty much it. All parts and materials are in within the next week and we will be starting production. So...the sooner we hit our goal, the sooner we ship tents.
