Icon Stage 2 front strut bushings don't fit

Hey everyone,

I bought an Icon Stage 2 kit a while back (20 months ago or so) for my 2006 4Runner Limited and just got around to installing it today. I disconnected the front sway bar end links, pulled out the upper control arm and strut, but when I tried to put the Icon strut in, the 19mm factory bolt wouldn't fit in the Icon bushing at the bottom of the strut.

I measured it with a caliper and the factory bushing is 1.45cm inside diameter. The Icon bushing is 1.39cm inside diameter. The non-threaded portion of the factory bolt is 1.40cm diameter, so there is only 0.01 or 0.02cm difference, but it definitely won't fit in the larger half of the bushing and it won't go into the smaller half at all.

I emailed the reseller and contacted Icon support through their website but I don't expect to hear back from anyone until Monday at the earliest.

Has anyone seen this before?

I double-checked the coilover hardware kit and it has 3 bolts for the top of the coilover, but there isn't a new bolt for the bottom that would fit the bushing.

did you buy a kit specific to 03-09 4runners or 07-09 fj cruisers? newer 4runners and tacoma's have a different size lower bushing, which sounds like what has happened to you

Ah, that explains it. I navigated to the kit I bought under "4Runner" on the MetalTech website where I bought it and I have a thread with one of their support guys discussing fit/weight loading with the 4Runner and a Demello bumper, but the invoice looks like they were putting together kits thinking they were interchangeable because it lists FJ on the individual parts but then 4Runner on the name of the kit.

Is it safe/possible to swap out a smaller grade 8 bolt? Is that something a local autopart store would carry?

i think what most do in this scenario is get the correct diameter bottom bushing and swap them out. would take a mechanic 10 minutes and $20

Are the bushings standardized parts I could get anywhere? The Icon bushings are two machined pieces that look like they are pretty specific to their struts. They aren't just a generic bushing that looks like it's cut off a piece of pipe.

actually i forgot about that. you could contact metal tech and see if they have a lower bushing
