Ideas for mesh or door for rear side storage

I want to build something here to make the storage area a little functional.

A bit hesitant to build a cabinet/shelf there yet. I eventually will build a sleeping platform but not sure how high I will raise it off the floor, so the cabinet/shelf might not be best idea yet. I was thinking to add mesh for now so that taller items don't roll around.

What have you guys done there?

Abs plastic. I just got done using some kydex i had sitting around.
