So I have this groan when in Drive at low idle. I'll be at a stoplight and my transmission will make a groaning sound. Watching the RPM's it will idle at 600rpms and every so often it will drop down to around 450rpm and the groan will occur. After a few seconds it will decide the truck isn't going anywhere and ramp back up to 600rpms or so and the noise will go away. No noises when accelerating at low speeds or above 5mph at all.
First question, why is she trying to idle < 500rpm in the first place? Trying to conserve fuel at idle? Have you noticed your truck doing this?
The only problem I've had with this transmission is the drive shaft clunk. A toyota mechanic reset the Tranny CPU and the clunk went away and hasn't returned. But it wasn't until long after that that I replaced both CV's myself and noticed this noise. It used to be rare but now it occurs nearly all the time when stopped.
Doesn't happen in Park or Neutral. Thoughts?
