Ignition coil problems after swap

Hey guys so I just bought a 88 pickup and the PO had swapped that engine for a 94 4runner engine. He kept the same 88 harness on it and says it was running fine, which I find hard to believe now.

So what I have done so far
1. I interchanged the 88 computer with a 94 4runner computer and nothing happend.

2. I changed the ignition coil and nothing.

3. I swapped in my 88 4runner coil and module (that I know work fine) and no spark.

4. So I looked for the 94 4runner coil and module online and I notice the connections are different.

Now my question is: Is there a difference from an 88 coil to the 94? I have the wiring diagrams for both and can see the difference. But why would the coil itself be different and not spark?

What's the difference in the engines. What engine are we dealing with? If he swapped in a different motor, then you'll likely need that motors harness. Though i would wait for someone who would know more. Several good guys here that can help you bud.

Sorry I forgot to specify. They are both 3.0 V6s. He swapped in a 94 4runner 3.0 kept the original 88 3.0 wire harness.

Is there no spark with either coil?
Are you swapping the igniter too?
Do you have +12V to the correct terminal on the coil?

Yeah there's no spark on either coil and I'm swapping the igniter too.
I just checked continuity on the Blk-Red wire from the ignition switch to the igniter connection and I get continuity, but once I turn the key to start it I lose continuity. Which I'm guessing is where the problem is since I am not getting power to the igniter because it gets cut off somewhere along the line.

from what i know with all 4runners 3.0. cant say those holds true as far as when the years cut off for pickups
the ignitor from 90+ will be different than pre 89. its possible to swap a 94 into a 88 and keep the 88 ignitor.

hope your not using ohms setting with the key on.
you just need to turn key on and check for 12v at the ignitor. there should be two small wires going to it. one + one -

Yeah, if it's not getting 12V it's not going to work.
