Improving Performance

I have a 1994 V6 4Runner, and it accelerates very, very slowly.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with increasing performance in this area. Any help is appreciated.

You probably haven't gotten any replies because you need to search first. There is plenty of info on here about what you want to know. To answer your question though, intake, exhaust, headers, supercharger is the order I'd go in if I were you.

TRD supercharger for the 3.4L V6 should be somewhat cheap these days now that Toyota no longer uses this engine.

TRD supercharger is probably your best bet to gain significant performance.

TRD dual exhaust for V8 Runner

Spoke to a TRD USA rep today and was told they just released a dual exhaust system for the V8 runner. Has anybody heard anything?

As far as I know the 3VZE 3.0L V6 in the 1994 doesnt have a TRD supercharger. I had the same acceleration problem with mine. I picked up a K&N FIRK and Flowmaster exhaust. Still wont win races but I'm satisfied with the performance. You could always install headers as well. Check these guys out for even more performance goodies, they specialize in the our 3.0L.

1993 4ruuner needs power

while my 1993 4 runner v6 is OK for driving around at sea level, in los angeles, when I take it into the mountains with 3 people and gear it is truly a dog. At 8,000 feet on an incline I am lucky to get 55mph !

What mods will really help at altitude ! I have the K&N FIPK air intake. That seemed to help a little bit. Should I go with a Borla exhaust and/or some electronic ECU foolery ? I thought I wanted a supercharger but I can't find one for a 1993 3VZE !

Where is the hard earned cash best spent ?
I have already dumped a lot of cash into this truck and need some bang for the buck, please help !!!
Give me a reason to keep this beast alive !!

No supercharger for the 3.0slow.

no mods are worth the money even the headers.

When mine dies I am doing the 3.4L swap

I say live with it or do the swap.

$4500.00 just for a reworked short block????? and thats the cheapest they offer.

SWAP...SWAP...SWAP...3.4L...cheaper and more ponies.

Back in the mid to late 90's I could have sworn there was a s/c for the 3.slow. I remember wanting it for my '90 runner

was it made by someone other than TRD. If so maybe but I would bet the farm TRD did not make one for it or I would have it.:D

trd did make a s/c for the 3.0.. not the 3.slow:D ...it was for the camry/solara 3.0 i think..

swap up

Well, if I was going to do an engine swap, I would want even more HP than the 3.4L.

What is the largest sane TOYOTA engine swap for the 1993 sr5 v6 engine bay ?

What other scenarios should i be contemplating ?
Toyota v8 or domestic (chevy/ford) v8 ?

Are you people telling me not to bother with any exhaust mods at all ?!

Wouldn't an exhaust mod help the K&N breath a little ?

The 3.4L is the most logical will bolt up to your tranny, there is a aftermarket wiring harness for it and is a almost direct bolt in.
What are your plans?. I had a T-100 with this engine in it and it kicked ass for a V6...like 190HP 200+ torque and the option of a supercharger.
The chevy 350 small block has been done too.

Yes in my opinion don't bother with the exhaust not going to help the 3.0L that much for the $$$.

The only big help for the 3.0L that I have read is Headers/no cat?high flow cat. with your K&N might help some but not for the $$$.

As far as I know, the 1994 4Runner does not have the 3.4 Engine. The 3.4 is the same engine they had in the Tacomas which came out in mid 1995s.

I own the 3rd Gen 2002 4Runner w/ the 3.4 V6 and I have changed the muffler to Flowmaster 40 Delta series, it is freaking obnoxiously loud in the truck. I wish I just putted the 50 series instead. As for power gain, I did notice just a little but not much.
I also replaced the Toyota air filter to a K and N drop in replacement filter.

This summer I will do the deckplate mod and I am looking into gaining a little bit more noise and power increase. I would like to get new TuRD headers but I cannot fork out the ca$hola, so I might just end up with a deckplate moded 4Runner. My next vehicle will be a Tacoma regular cab V4. Gass prices are outreagous.

Good luck.

Ok so maybe my long term plan would be a 3.4 L +Supercharger swap in.
How much would you expect to pay for that (parts+labor) ???

I'm in Los Angeles, so are there any Cali emissions factors to worry about ?

The only big help for the 3.0L that I have read is Headers/no cat?high flow cat.

It's an automatic, so how much will headers cost installed and isn't there a relocation part involved in that installation ?

I did talk to a mechanic with a 4runner who had the headers, exhaust and the JET chip and he said it was really a waste of money, in his opinion. So I am sort of sad about this fact but it's good to have a reality check.

How many more miles should I expect out of this engine before something blows up ? It had a factory head gasket RECALL and replacement around 60,000 miles. It's about to hit 108,000 miles.
Oh yeah, I have to get the back brakes done ASAP so what are your favorite pads ?

toyota v8 swap in ?

toyota v8 swap in ?

Is that really difficult or too big ?

There must be a way ?

I'm just used to a lot of performance from my SUBARU, wouldn't the v8 make a massive difference or does it add too much weight to make it "peppy" ??

Ok your looking at about $3K for the engine from a salvage yard maybe cheaper just have to look.
Superchargers are about $1.5K
and the conversion kit.
the labor would probably be $$$$$. unless you made a project out of it and did it yourself,

Emmisions don't change on the truck with the swap all the emmision components go with it. But you would have to check into that out there. they are tough out there in CA.

As far as the headers your right I think you have to move the crossover pipe. I could check into it.
But your friend is right for the $$ it's not worth it.

your truck will last a long time if you take care of it, it is not uncomman to see them over 200K

And your brake shoes in the rear go with Toyota or bendex they last forever this is probably the second time you will have changed them. Fronts wear out quicker.:D
