if you like the ruggedness and potential in the 4Runner, i think that is your answer right there. a Rav 4 is a downsize, and a sequoia feels more suburban to me.

i'd stick with the 4R if it has made you happy.

lots of other questions though: do you camp? do you offroad? do you have a family and need a bigger car (e.g. maybe sequoia)?

Did anyone mention GX 460? It will be both feeling at home and also absolutely new car + at reasonable price. That's what I did. Recommend to do a test drive.

I would wait, but if not buy a used 2018 or something. I wouldn’t buy a rav 4 or sequoia unless you really like the sequoia.

Totally get where you're coming from! The LC200 and Tundra are beasts in durability. Are you particularly fond of your 06? If you are, why not rebuild the motor/trans? If not, maybe a newer one? I have a 1998 SR5 2WD. I wish it was 4WD LOL! I have driven it 40k miles since I got it from my dad a year and a half ago. I really enjoy it, but if I had the chance to get a newer one, I would!

I'd like to thank the guys above for resurrecting this old thread since I'm a newb needing a 15th post.

It's interesting because just when the OP started this I was buying my 2019 TRD OR. I was planning to play the "wait" game too, but the truck I fell into was "exactly" what I was looking for right down to the color and low mileage so I pulled the trigger. I'm not unhappy with it because I'm now a year into it instead of still looking. And, prices have not improved all that much.

Also interesting to read the different takes on what is important to folks in their individual decision making process.

In Denver Toyotas are being discounted again, we went in to see what a 24' 4Runner would be since Groove Toyota's site was already showing $2600 off MSRP and ended up getting a 23' TRD ORP MGM with 1400 miles on it and Toyota certified to 100k for almost $8k off MSRP.

If you need a new 4Runner I would start shopping as there are a lot of deals out there!

I also did see this post had been brought up again and of course many things have changed. Probably the biggest thing is dealers have many on their lots to sell and these have really big discounts, from $2500 to $3200 discounts. I was not interested in a 4 Runner in the past until just the last month, or so, so I really only know what I have read about and dealers marking up their vehicles, as the supply and demand was high. Now with higher interest rates and the cost of new vehicles it has finally caught up and the tide has turned in favor of the buyers. I will say here that the new 2025 4 Runner is not what I'm looking for, I like the old school and think in the future so will many others, thus keeping the value in these models. I personally feel that the older 4 Runners will follow along just like the FJ Cruiser has done, high resale values and easy to sell. This is just how I see it today, tomorrow maybe totally different.

look for a 2019 4Runner, its the last of the non nanny models and before covid crazy. I wouldn't touch a 6th gen with a 10ft pole after hearing what happened to the Tundra.
