Income for a Toyota sales person?

not all are commission based.

our dealer is volume based. $250 per vehicle sold and bonus after each tier of sold vehicles for the sales person.

the dealership makes the big money from the bonus they get for hitting so much sold each month back from Toyota.

if they sell 50 cars a month (avg cost is 25k new) and get a 5% kick back on volume sold, that's about 62k profit before costs for the dealer.

that doesn't include hold backs and other profit avenues.

the customers are happier since the sales person isn't trying to gouge as much of a commission from each customer.

edit: and that is why once in a while you hear a story where someone is sold a vehicle for an ungodly cheap price. you customer thinks wow, I got it 10k off the sticker, but the dealer is laughing all the way to bank cause they hit the kick back number which gives them a big fat check back from Toyota that makes that 10k loss on that vehicle puny.

I was curious why this dealership near me was offering ford escapes and fusions for so cheap. They have a huge inventory and always seem busy. No other dealer would match their prices.

Have you previously worked for the standard-commission based dealership? If so, how does that work?

I think I understand the margins on pre-owned transactions can be especially attractive. Yes, I have read Edmunds "Confessions of..." Series...

If you are an honest person, I would not work at any dealership that paid commision based on profit. It is simply old-school thinking that leads to old school bait and switch tactics.

I sold cars out of high school, albeit unsuccessfully due to my brutally honest nature, and I can say that if you have any shred of decency, you will not even consider commissioned car sales.
