Info about a 1988 p/u

Hi classic truck crew!

I'm going to take a look at a 1988 Toyota pickup truck this afternoon and have been searching for good info on what to look at closely but haven't found much info beyond what ill go into below. Running on the assumption that they may have a bit in common with 4runners of the same age/year...

I have read about the 22R engines and understand what to look for / ask about regarding the plastic timing chain guides and the head gaskets.

I also know how to inspect a truck for rust.

Besides that...I really haven't found much guidance. Lots of things about how reliable these old trucks are. Is there anything else specific to these trucks that i should look for?:shrug:

Oh and what kind of value / range do you think would be appropriate if the description proves to be true? The owner claims...

*1988, 22R engine, manual trans.
*Rust free
*156K miles

he is asking $3400 which seems high to me. If it checks out I thought Id shoot for $2500 cash. Thoughts?

It depends where you live, $3400's a reasonable price for a rust free and 150k on ther clock truck. A truck like that in good condition's sold in hours where I live.

Do you know anything about these trucks? Anything to inspect closely that is vehicle specific(beyond rust & plastic timing chain guides)?
