Hey all,
Haven't been on this forum in quite a while but feel the input would still be appreciated. Its too bad that photobucket dumped all my photos a few years ago but my build thread had a ton of info on this exact question about a solid "midtravel" set up that wasn't overly complicated.
Here was my build thread if anyone was interested in the journey.
Crazydubman's 97 limited runner build
Here is a list of what all I had performed
Front:
- SAW Tacoma extended travel 2.5" coilovers
- Camburg Upper control arms
- Swaybar removed
- Whiteline Lower Control arm bushings
- Total chaos Alignment Cam tabs
- Total Chaos spindle gussets
- Total Chaos upper control arm strut tower gussets
- EIMKeith Lower control arm reinforcements
Rear:
- SAW 06 4runner extended travel 2" shocks (25" extended)
- OME 861 springs
- Swaybar axle side 1" offset brackets installed to allow swaybar not to hit elocker guard at lift height.
- Daystar Comp 4.5" progressive bump stops
- 1.5x.250 wall heimed and poly links.
- Limit Straps
- EIMKeith Panhard relocation brackets
- EIMKeith Frame side Lower link mount reinforcements
- EIMKeith Upper axle side link mount reinforcements
For the front, I found that Camburg was the only vendor that offered UCA's with 1.25" uniball's instead of 1" from Total chaos. That little bit extra diameter allowed slightly better misalignment on the upper joint. Also the poly and delrin bushings at the frame side of the upper and lower arms allowed for no binding which would cause a little restriction compressed and extended.
The SAW (Swayaway) extended travel coilovers were a great (basic) option and I think offered the shortest compressed length of the coilovers I looked at back when I was building up the 4runner.
Hopefully my picture attaches but as you can see, I think my 4runner was one of the more "built" flexy setup's while still remaining fairly basic component wise.
I had fully tubbed the firewall, battery tray, inner fender, gutted the fenders/flares, etc to allow full stuff with no rubbing lock to lock (checked with removal of coilover and fully compressed lock to lock). I did not have a body lift and swore I wouldn't run one on this 4runner. Rear needed a touch more work in the corners of the flairs but still tucked the 35's fully into the arches. They were 315/75/16's on 16x8" 3.5"BS wheels for anyone wondering.
