Install Help from the SoCal Peeps

Hey Guys/Gals,

Figured I'd ask here before I decided to spend money at a shop. I am in the middle of installing my lift on my 1998 T4R. Finished the rears, but with the lack of tools at hand...I am at a stand still on finishing it. For some weird reason, the AutoZone near me doesn't have the spring compressor for me to rent. On top of that, I have parasitic drain I cant track down for the life of me. So, I am here asking for my fellow T4R members if they'd lend a hand. Pizza and Beer on me or what ever your taste buds are in the mood for. I don't mind driving out to someone's place. Plus it gives me good reason to meet members. Thanks in advance.

Just seen this post. What kind of lift are you doing. Palmdale is pretty good distance away hope some one in your area can help. It's a pretty easy job with the right tools

Same Boat

Looking for someone to act as lead tech and show me the way on lift install. I do have UCA's and LBJ's to do too, but those parts don't appear to be as much of a need on my new one as they were on the one that was totaled.

Really need to get the rears done soon. 2" sag and it looks / feels like crap.

Willing to travel, as necessary and of course will take care of food and libations. Hell, nchacon1984 if you can handle all of this, I'll buy the damn spring compressors..

I could help with the rears. That was fairly easy. UCAs and LBJs is a whole different level. I have yet to tackle those as well.

Figured I'd start building my tool collection again plus I'd feel a little safer doing it this way then that compressor from AutoZone.

Just in case people are wondering why I have little to none tools to tackle this simple work is cause...when my old man passed away, I moved back home. Mom decided to get rid of his stuff and confused his tools for mine. :redbrick:

Anyway, current pic of where my 4R sits.

Tip on installing the rear coil springs:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktk2pjvsKGk.

Used this method to get in 3" Icon springs and worked like a charm.

What are you putting on the front? If it's a coilover you don't need a compressor. Stock come out with 3 nuts and a bolt and coilover goes right in. Might need to disconnect the sway bar ends and loosen the LCA bolts to get a little more room but it's a pretty easy swap.

If you're doing something like 5100s and springs that need to be assembled, look up the no compressor method. It's relatively safe and I've done it multiple times. Unfortunately I can't help with installs for awhile since I'll be spending the next few weekends putting my own rig back together.

What tools you guys need? I've never worked on a 3rd gen yota but have done many lifts - Chevys Fords Jeeps Dodges, 1st & 2nd gen toys...I might be able to lend a hand if work slows down a bit

I need tools and direction - I have basic tools, but not everything to do the lift install. I don't have the knowledge or experience to attempt to tackle this myself, especially when she's my DD. I have Sat / Sun off if you're open to help a noob...

Curious - what are you from hub to fender in the rear??

I’m installing 883/5100 combo but besides the suspension, I have UCAs to install too. Also, have trans cooler, diff drop, and eimkeith pan hard kit. Most importantly though is tracking down the parasitic drain.
Ok. Checked the no compressor method...might give that a go. Thanks for that.

I haven’t measured it yet.
