Installed Headgaskets, still have low idle 400rpm

Finished putting together my 04 4runner, go to fire it up and it wouldn't stay running unless I was on the throttle. Then it ran fine but the idle is low, 400ish rpm.

The idle was low before the tear down but I thought it was because of the bad gasket.

Could I be off tooth on the chain? I checked the marks 5 times, and it went back the same way it went on.

I think my next steps are to clean the throttle body and IAC.

did you have the battery disconnected? how long has it been idling at 400rpm since first start up?

I had the battery out for a couple weeks. I ran it for a few minutes, with my foot on the throttle to keep it from dying, then it idled for maybe 3-4 minutes at 400

I had my battery disconnected today and it did the same thing. You need to let the computer do some learning for a little bit. Then it will idle fine.

I hope you didn't replace your head gasket for nothing.

I could see where the gasket leaked between cylinder 4 and 6, pretty common issue on 03/04

@Eurotrash Disconnect the battery for about 10minutes. Then reconnect it and start the vehicle.

It may not fire up on the first try (usually by the second time you crank it) let it idle with NO loads (no headlights, no AC, ect.) for a good 5minutes and then drive it for a normal test drive. The vehicle needs to relearn the idle properly, it helps to have a clean throttle body when doing this.

Had a CEL, it was P0118 ECT, forgot to plug it in. Plugged the sensor in and it ran perfect!
