If you google "Engine Masters Header Bash" you should be able to find it, or better yet, subscribe to Motor Trend On Demand and find the Engine Masters show. Basically they mangle a set of headers on a 560hp engine on the dyno. They lose ~2hp total.

I was finally able to get the install completed. After 7 weeks of waiting and being lied to (they said they had installed the passenger side and were working on the driver side - the lie detector test determined THAT was a lie lol), I took my car elsewhere and had everything installed in a timely manner.

AND in the process I found a mechanic in Indiana that isn't a moron! But he is from California, so that might be a technicality...

Most importantly, headers installed, no denting was necesarry - 1200 mile road trip in the books and all smiles over here!

I have a shop installing the Shorties now on my 06' v8... they said they are running into the same issue with the steering column being in the way!


How did you get your headers to install with the steering column in the way?!

Bring out the blow torch and the sledge hammer, that's my opinion and what I did and what worked for me. The data supports that there are NO negative effects and my own experience and 5k miles on the vehicle also support that.

I believe you, I heard from others that you can move the steering column as well, somehow.

If you can figure it out, all the power to you, but it was cheaper and easier for me to forage a blow torch and some cheek in tongue swings at the headers to be able to drive the 4runner out of the shop versus leaving it there longer
