intermittant cruise control issue

My truck's cruise, especially when at the beginning of the trip when it's cold, will not reliably work. Light comes on, and when I go to engage it, it just doesn't work. Some trips it never works. Some trips it gets working again shortly after the first try. Totally random. So any ideas?

Have you taken a peek under the hood at the cable that goes to the throttle body which controls the cruise control? It should be the cable that is closest to the windshield of the 3. Mine was very loose a few weeks back and I noticed that my cruise control would act funny. I adjusted out some of the slack and it is back to "normal".

Might be worth a check.

do you have a manual transmission?

The clutches are known to be a bit sticky and won't fully extend and cause the cruise control to think the clutch is engaged. You can try lifting the clutch with your foot and see if that fixes your issue.

It was the clutch thing. I can reliably use it now. Thanks for the help!
