Intro and build thread - 2017 cement TRD Pro

Hey guys,

I just wanted to briefly introduce myself - I'm Chris from Houston! I'm a long time Audi driver making the jump to the Toyota family.

I've been lurking for a few months on here. I originally was going to get a Limited as a daily driver, but after many nights of research on this forum (thanks for the help and posts by all members over time!) I was able to change direction and put a down payment on a 2017 TRD Pro in the cement color. I thought this would be the best bet for resale over time and "fun factor".

The truck should arrive this week. It will get some off road use, but will be mostly used for Houston pothole smashing since I just can't deal with it on a daily basis in my lowered RS5 anymore. I don't wear affliction so I am not a TRD Bro! haha.

Minor plans for upgrade include:
1) Wheel spacers
2) 265 KO2 tires
3) leveling kit
4) stereo upgrade
5) roof rack
6) C4 sliders for trips to Austin and some rock crawling

Update 10-3-2018

King shocks
Total chaos control arms
Scs f5 wheels 17x9
285 nitto ridge grapplers

How it sits now

Thanks!

Welcome! I too am awaiting delivery of a cement TRDP. My list of desired Mods looks pretty similar, but I will probably start with a simple competition stereo installation. Look forward to following along with the build progress.

I have my cement coming in end of the month (coming from a 3 series BMW). Took about 2 months from deposit to VIN allocation. I have already bought the Xenondepot 4300K Philips HID, LED DRL, and Philips yellow LED fogs. Id like to do more but dont have time to do myself, maybe a 2" lift and stereo.

What are your plans for the stereo upgrade? Cant wait!

Question: How does one "go" from an Audi or BMW to a 4Runner? That's like saying I have always only eaten tofu and now I am going to only eat bacon. There is no natural progression there. Is it just for a cool looking vehicle? From the time I was a kid I was always off road on something. When I got my first junker I built it to go off road. I bought my first new 4Runner at 21. I now ride mountain bikes. I used to ride enduro motorcycles. See the pattern? Just curious how someone goes from a purely street queen to something that, well, is just the opposite really.

JL stuff in the doors, factory head unit and a stealth box. Nothing too fancy...just something to get away from the dismal factory door speaker!

Yes I'm super excited too!

I originally looked at an X5 for a daily, but the depreciation was so bad on it, and the lease was such a ripoff, I just couldn't do it.

In terms of progressing - I actually think that buying a 4runner is one of the more "adult" decisions I have made in terms of buying a vehicle, haha. Low depreciation and cheap to maintain/

I will still keep the Audi - it will just come out on weekends.

LOL- good question but 5 years ago i had no kids and still wanted a fast good looking car with red interior, and was a childhood goal to own a BMW once in my life as a sense of accomplishment! (along with a Rolex) Been there done that now with 2 kids. i have always wanted something rugged and good looking as a family hauler so i thought this would make a great choice. I looked at everything out there and all the "SUV's" seemed to be like overpriced mini vans or cute ute's. no thanks! like ChrisB mentioned the X5 was way overpriced and seemed very impractical for a young family.

It's really more of an upgrade then a down grade BMW and Audi lose a lot of their value and shitty on maintenance! So you really upgraded lmao

This is the same reasoning I had, and I will be keeping my M3 for the weekends also.

Pics of the RS5? I used to have a vw gli then a FJ and now a trail edition. Decisions definitely change as we get older. Should be a nice vehicle when it comes in. With 265's you probably wont have a issue but with the wheel spacers you run a chance of the tires rubbing the body mount so a body mount chop might be in order.

Welcome to the forum... I'm located in Houston as well and hit the trails (Hidden Falls, Barnwell Mountain, ORV, etc) few times a year. I'm going to the Lone Star Jamboree in few weeks, let me know if you are going... Its a great event

When did you put the payment down and how long did it take for it to only be a week away now? Put my payment down about 3 weeks ago and am dying waiting for it.

Sounds like it will be a nice rig once everything is all said and done. Looking forward to seeing some pics once it's all done.
