Hello fello 4runners. I just recently bought my first 4runner, and damn proud to have it. Right now she sits without any mods. I am needing some info pertaining to a lift I want to add to it. I would like to add 2 inches, (or I won't fit into garage) and looking at the EMU lift. I am having some trouble figuring exactly what I need for it. Can someone post a link, or send me in the right direction.

2001 4runner, SR5 4x4 3.4L
Fully loaded
rear lock
Natural white with tan leather

I will post some pics this weekend. I appreciate any help I can get, and glad to be apart of the 4r org!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm sure everyone will be very interested in your 4x5 setup! hehehe, I know, just a typo...
PLENTY of info on this board and others on lift options. A search for OME should return hundreds of results, here's one link to get you started http://www.toyteclifts.com/

thanks techno, I went to Toytec, and am putting on OME 881 coils in the front, OME 906 coils for the back, OME front shocks, and Nitro back shocks. 2" total, with some 265/75/16 Kumho Road Venture MT 834 tires. Should look nice, and get me to where I need to go photographing, :)

Nice. Post some pics of the lift.

And not to burst your bubble, but you don't have a rear locker, and your engine is a 3.4L. :D

p nut was correct to assume you do not have a rear diff lock, since Toyota discontinued that option on 2001/2 4runners. According to 'official' literature, 2001 models came with the Multimode 4wd system as standard on all 4wd models, so these have a locking CENTER differential, not a rear one.
Do you have the switch with RR DIFF LOCK written on it? If you do then your vehicle is kind of unique I think.
2000 model vehicles had the diff lock with the SR5 Sport Package option and the SR5 Extra Value Package #5. It was also a stand alone option on Limited models.

I have the rear lock button, and also says so in the manual, I used it this weekend running through everything in 4x4. Plus when I bought it, my best friend (who is a 4x4 nut, with a landrover lifted 3") ran through the whole process on how to lock it for me. I am guessing mine is an optional package that was added on, I still have the original sticker in the glove box, and I just went out to make sure again, and it was an added on optional package. Unless I am missing something, or misread something, and I have gone through the manual, it is rear locking diff. Also, what you wrote "RR DIFF LOCK" says that on the options part that were added.

Also, on the options part. it says sport package.

Okay then. So the next question is do you have the transfer case shifter with the 4wd button on it?

I just got this 2wks ago, and still learning everything on it, and where all is at, lol. Sorry, this is my first 4x4. And I will surely admit I am not a mechanic by know means. All I know is I can hit the button to switch to 4x4, put it in N, shift into 4L or 4H, and lock it with the switch to the left of my steering column, then back into drive and away I wheel. I am just going off of what is on this, and what was added on for options.

I will double check on all of this after work, I may be wrong, and will admit if I am.

That's interesting. So I'm guessing you don't have VSC/ATRAC, right? (Traction control).

Also, are you sure you have a 2001, then, and not a 2000?

I'm not questioning your word here. I am just curious, because I've never seen a 2001 with a rear locker before.

Here is my center lock button. If you have a rear locker, it would read "R/R Lock"

Okay, I have this figured out, with you replying, and me getting into it. Okay, the option package that was installed, says RR Locking Differential. (Which was 890.00 added charge) I can actually photograph the sticker for you if I need to. But, as manual goes, and as the same button you have, it is center lock diff. So you are correct, or did the previous owner have a rear lock installed with the package?

Believe me my word is good, and I have no reason to say anything that is a lie.

Yes, I do have the VSC/ATRAC, that came on 2 wks ago at my buddies lake house, when i was doing some light wheelin', getting used to things basically. He was the one whom told me what that was. I have never owned a 4x4, I got this because I am a photographer/hiker/backpacker, who goes on trips into remote areas, and welll my maxima did not really go where I needed it too. THe 4, provides me with everything I need, and truly appreciate and love. I have always wanted one, but never fell into place. I am here to learn about it, the right mods to add, and right company that does it. All i want is my 4r, to take me where I need to go, and share pics as I add mods to this forum. I thought it was really cool to see a forum about 4r's!

I'm learning it, and all the in's and out's to it, and since this conversation started, now reading through the manual, which, honestly is something I truly do not do. But, you have made me wonder, and question it, so i have read, and re-read. thanks, for info, I appreciate it.

4runner4marley,

I shoot 3 different cameras, 20D digital, CanonElan (slide camera) YashicaMat124 G, (medium format camera).

Here is a link: temporary, my website is being build by best friend who I photograph with.

Also, that link you post only sends me to the registration part, no photos to view.

RinMaiden-I'm getting mine from ToyTec, 2" life, OEM 881 front coils, 906 back coils, OEM front shocks, and OEM Nitro back shocks. I am thinking of putting on the Kumho Road Venture MT 834265/75/16 tires with it. I already priced it with them for 679.00.

I highly doubt that you could install a rear locker from the factory in a 2001 model. Like it was said before, they discontinued the rear locker for the 4Runners after 2000. I was seriously going to be jealous if you did have a factory e-locker! :D

The previous owner could have had an aftermarket locker installed, but usually, they have a separate switch for it. But more than likely, whomever typed up that window sticker is an idiot and made a mistake. Tacoma's of the same year still had the locker option, so that could've been the source of the type-o.

One of the first mods I'd do is the "Andy Mod." It disables your VSC/TRAC + ABS. It's a nuisance when you're wheeling. Here is the link:
