iOS 6 + Entune - New Features

I don't know how many folks are running iOS 6, but if you are I want to see if anyone else has noticed new features. I noticed that I now get notifications about new messages on my Entune display (I THINK this is new). Also, the app icons are no longer grayed-out when I connect via bluetooth. Having said that, it wont connect to the internet via bluetooth; I need to use the cable.

I'm not sure if there are other Entune relevant changes, but will post if I notice or think I notice) anything.

Thanks,

I don't have a 5th gen, but I am running iOS 6. I am quite surprised with the lack of bugs in it. I remember iOS 4 Beta one broke my iPhone 3gs. iOS 5 Beta 1 made my iPhone 4 not get cell service until beta 2. iOS 6, no problems at all.

My wife mostly speaks Spanish, and always when she is mad at me; well...I guess we can really just say she always speaks Spanish. Siri now speaks Spanish. You have options for U.S. Spanish, Mexican Spanish, and Spanish Spanish. My wife, being Peruvian, wanted to believe she speaks Spanish Spanish, but Siri thought otherwise. To my wife's disappointment, the best setting was the Mexican Spanish.

Siri actually works pretty well through the Bluetooth and allows me to apologize to my wife via text while I am driving. Oh, and now I can open apps without having to touch the phone.

I, like you, am much more pleased with the beta.

So does entune have an option where you hit a button (if so, is it the button on the steering wheel or on the entune screen?) and Siri starts to listen to you and it comprehends what you say through the 4Runner's mic? I know iOS is coming with the "eyes-free Siri integration" feature and Toyota is onboard with implementing it. I wonder if it will be a Bluetooth profile change or a entune firmware update can enable that feature; Thanks!

At present, I still have to hold the home button to actuate, but then Siri can be operated through the Bluetooth microphone and speaker.

Siri was supposed to be integrated into vehicles with iPod/iPhone integration but according to news articles Apple dropped the ball and forgot to tell automakers and are already advertising the new features.

I like both my iPhone and iPad, but it is this kind of stuff that irks me and I'd never tell anyone that they are foolish for using another platform. It is a bit of a love hate relationship.

Of course, the Entune HU isn't exactly the most technologically advanced made. I'm glad for the functions it has, but still plan on replacing it.

For those that have iOS 6, there is an over the air update that has improved stability (I haven't had any issues so far).

For the last week I've been travelling through Europe. Started in Germany, then Switzerland, then Italy, and I'm currently in France. Needless to say I haven't exactly used my iphone very often.

I am glad to see that apple is getting on board because they were getting left behind but then again maybe they were trying to get the MAP aspect down pact before releasing a half ass product. Now I will be able to use my system to its full potential. I know how the text messaging should work but not sure about the email portion of the entune.

my experience with iOS 6 and Entune

Hi all, thought I'd share my experience with iOS 6 and Entune so far.

I have done a little testing and this is what I have.

For those that are having trouble getting the new MAP protocol on iOS6 to receive your text message notifications over bluetooth, I also was having trouble, even though the option is now available in the iPhone bluetooth menu. It wasn't as simple as just turning the option on, but with some troubleshooting I was able to get it to work, so if anyone needs help just ask here and I'll give you my steps I took to get it to work.

Also, I should note, you can only receive the messages (which btw you can also click on the speaker icon and the NAV lady will speak it out to you which is pretty cool). Even though there is an option to SEND messages to anyone in your phone book or any number for that matter. It will say the message was sent, but it won't show up on your iPhone thread of messages, and more importantly, it won't send at all to the recipient. I already tested with some friends, booo :(

On another crappy note, I was still unable to connect to the internet via bluetooth. Hopefully Toyota will finally fix this crap, it's unbelievable it is taking this long for Apple or Toyota to figure it out, I'm sure the phone and entune hardware are very capable. I do know you can Jailbreak your iPhone or pay the "personal hot spot" fee to your carrier to set up a personal network on your phone, and then use that to connect wirelessly through the DUN/PAN connection, but as of now, their is no free, non-jailbreaking way to connect an iPhone's data plan wirelessly to Entune (that I know of). I'll keep trying some things, but no luck so far on iOS 6. I'm sure as hell not coughing up $30 a month extra for tethering to achieve this functionality.

Also, for reference, I have a 2012 4Runner Trail (with Entune), iPhone 4s running iOS 6 of course, and Verizon unlimited data plan (grandfathered) with no tethering service.

Hope this helps some people. Happy to discuss more.
Nick

I have the same truck, same phone and same service. Can you explain how you managed to get it to work?

iOS6 kicks ass on my Prius v HDD Nav w/ Entune. This is what my bluetooth streaming screen looks like:

Press the button where the song is and this shows up:

That shows the next 4 tracks and allows you to skip straight to songs. If you hit the down arrow, it is the next 5, and the next 5, etc. Huge upgrade from just hitting next over and over if songs that I'm not in the mood for come up.

Press the button where the album is and this shows up:

Full music browsing controls via bluetooth FTW! I really, really wish my 4Runner had the Entune unit now, rather than the bare bones bluetooth streaming unit.

first, the BT streaming works with entune and ios5. has been for me since i bought my t4r last month.

I am downloading ios6 as we speak. Do the calendar and email functions work? plugged in or via bt?

Also, when you do figure something out do include it in your notice thread. Otherwise you spin a bunch of us up and dont give us the info to make it work for ourselves. then we hate you for it...just saying.

thanks

Yes, I know bt audio streaming worked before. It worked in iOS 4 with my '10 4Runner and iOS 5 brought artist, album, and track info on the screen. The only control options were next track, previous track, play/pause. Now you have full music browsing controls. Those browsing controls were only previously available when connected by USB. HUGE difference in how functional the system is.

I gotta say i'm a bit annoyed by the guy who did a drive by "i got messaging to work" and didnt include the "how" part.

I just updated to ios6 and its all greyed out for me in entune. Would have bee nice to know what he did...

So far with every different setting i can think of with iOS 6:

-BT streaming w/ limited controls (same as before)
-Additional browsing (more like this, etc) when corded.

-No Messages/Emails/Calendar BT or corded (no change).

Back to scouring the interwebs...

careful, one of those interwebs just tried to load a bogus flah virus. My Norton caught it. but it was ugly there for a minute.

ok, so there's a setting under your BT pairing on your iphone that says "Show Notifications".

I turned that on and i no longer get an error accessing messages via BT.

Unfortunately thats all that it does. SMS/Imessage doesnt work to receive or send texts. I tried BT and connected.

way to suck apple and toyota. what a fail. thank you for almost making entune useful.

i'm going to call toyota customer service tomorrow to let them know how unhappy i am with entune.

BTW: my entune is 1.8.7 (i think) in the car is that the latest version? I have the latest app from the app store. I love how toyota doesnt even tell you what the most current version is for your vehicle so you are left guessing.
