iPad Install

Hello I just finished installing my iPad for a removable navigation system. I used a magnetic smart cover and sugru. The iPad is removable; not the mount. If anyone is interested I can give more details. I plan to dress up the glue since this was really just a proof of concept.

I doubt I'll do this, since I don't have an iPad...

But I would still be interested in a couple more pics of how it attaches. I have a friend with an iPad who is interested in mounting one in his next car.

if you are into a really custom job, i would replace the stock stereo and fiberglass a mount where the stock radio is, and be able to slide the ipad in and out for removal and such.

I've seen this a few times, looks awesome I'd go this route.

You can get a cheap "smart cover from eBay. They attach to iPad 2 and 3 with a magnetic hinge. Cut the cloth part off.

Then glue it on with the sugru. Sugru is a flexible glue you can get from sugru.com

Oh and I spray painted the hinge black with a little semigloss krylon!

Well, I just leave it on auto. But you could flip up or just "tear" it off then stick it back on since iPad is attached via magnets!

I've got a Motorola Xoom that I'm looking at mounting in my 4Runner. Your mount looks like pretty good. I found this web site that I might get a mount from. There are several different solutions that they offer. It covers a variety of tablets on the market. The screens are bigger than a double DIN DVD deck and I can plug it into the AUX on my deck. I think tablets are the way to go for Nav and entertainment.

What app is that? Looks like it has an icon for anything from music to navigation and then displaying some vehicle stats (obd2 info?)...

Thanks guys, sorry for the hijack maddogdunn! I used to be a computer tech and as much as I love technology sometimes the simple solution is best.

The app on the display is GPS HD by MotionX, it's their topo/trail navigation app which I highly recommend. Also excellent is their on pavement app, GPS Drive, which I trust far more than the built-in.
