iPhone 6 USB Connectivity Issue on 5th Gen

No problems pairing my iPhone 6 through Bluetooth, but USB is a different story. When trying to connect my iPhone 6 through USB it neither charges nor is recognized as a USB device.

My question: Does anyone have a direct solution to fix this issue? I don't want to circumvent the problem. I want to be able to hook my phone up through the USB port and play music. I read that a 30-pin adapter for the iPhone 6's Lightning connection will allow the iPhone to be recognized as an iPod Out device. Has anyone tried this successfully?

I know it will be asked, so here's an answer to the inevitable question: "Why do you need to use the USB port if you're successfully connected through Bluetooth?"

Answer: Connecting through the USB port connects the iPhone directly through digital means allowing for better sound quality. The headphone output from the phone through the AUX port is analog, thus reduced quality. Bluetooth vs USB connection could be debated, but I believe there is less chance of interference and noise through USB. Also, connecting through USB will allow multiple users in the vehicle to connect without having to stop the car and start a Bluetooth connection. The 4Runner manual states the following in multiple sections: "If an iPhone is connected via Bluetooth and USB at the same time, system operation may become unstable.".

I tried the the USB connection before and after setting up a Bluetooth connection to no avail. Entune updated to current version yesterday. iPhone iOS 8.1.3.

I think the Bluetooth sound quality in the vehicle is pretty good already, to the point where I highly doubt I could discern a difference versus hardwired connection via USB.

I'll try it out with my iPhone 6 > Apple 30pin/Lightening Adapter and get back to you on if it works or not.

Can't help with a fix,but I've been having similar connectivity issues on several vehicles (not just Toyota,and even with aftermarket head units) with my Iphone 5C since I updated to the latest iOS. On the previous iOS I had no issues with direct USB connection,whether from a genuine apple cable or a cheap $5 cable.

Mine works intermittently. First I thought I had a short in the cable. Tried multiple cables and same issue.

I have the same problem, and any other iProduct... Toyota dealers laugh it off and waste my time, tell me to bluetooth it, but its not possible with some iPods. Old iPods with 30 pin seem to work more inconsistantly. Software updates have made more problems than I initially started with.

Check my threads and see the run around Ive gotten and what has been done.

The longest lasting solution I have come up with and this gets me 1 hour max of no foul ups is on the head unit, deselect the album art work, volume stabilizer, I know its wierd and not a solution, but it gets me a bit of use out of this POS stereo.

I have the Nav unit in my vehicle. When I use the split screen for nav and audio, it ALWAYS freezes up. I can't believe in 2016 we still have these issues with factory audio products

I feel you and the dealers are of no help. Village Toyota blames everything from me to the iPod/iPhone/Zune/iPad/MP3 Player. The most resolve they came up with is "the new vehicles are like cell phones, sometimes you just lose features with software updates" Its frustrating because for 6 months everything worked fine, I had no software updates, then it started fouling up, no update to either product means hardware issue. Software update from Toyota killed more features and made everything worse with the unit.

I have the same issue, i hated bluetooth because of the sound quality, but found out each setting has its own audio adjusments, so it sounds just as good as USB. It is a pain when i have to charge. I have done some reasearch and found it has to do with bluetooth and usb at the same time, so i tried it with it turned it off, still same issue. I personally think the 6 has a bluetooth bug where it always connects even when turned off.
