iPhone 6 - Who's in?

LoL.

BTW, I have both a work iPhone 4s and a Galaxy Nexus. I also use Windows 7x64 for my work Lenovo and have a MBA 13" June 2012 for personal. I'm pretty open minded about this topic.

Based on my own interactions with each device, the iPhone 4s & 5 pale in comparison to the S-III and offer nothing that Android didn't already offer over a year ago.

You're right...iPhones actually offer amazing resale value...and Android still does not offer that!

Go to Amazon or your carrier's buyback program...and see how much the iPhone is worth and how much GS3 is worth. You may want to accidentally drop your GS3 in the toilet afterwards because it is worth more in the toilet bowl than it is in real life. :moon:

Other hints: in-cell touch screen technology, A6 processor that molests Snapdragon S4 (and pretty much anything else out there now), actual aluminum unibody (cast from a solid piece of Al), reliability, timely software updates, and actual battery life without need for supersizing the battery to name a few.

Could you be more specific when you say "pale in comparison". I hate vague generalities with no supporting information.

Don't forget that Brian does not own iphone 5...so not sure where he draws his conclusion from. iPhone 5 and 4S are worlds apart in terms of technology.

LoL. Slightly larger screen, faster CPU, 20% thinner, non-functional maps application. yeah "worlds apart" in technology.

Careful Brian, if you make anything but apple fanboy posts in these threads they send the lynch mob after you. They aren't interested in hearing your personal opinions unless you can back them up with cold hard facts, data analysis, spreadsheets, graphs and countless links and quotes from the know-it-alls that blog about cell phones everyday.
I'm with you, my work phone is an iPhone4 and my personal phone is the original (OLD) evo (which came with 4G over 3 years ago). My phones make & receive calls, texts, and emails and very little more. Though both phones have good qualities and issues I honestly think a combination of the 2 phones would result in one far superior phone that really is as good as everyone THINKS their iPhone is.

Thai, ya gotta admit, that commercial from the embedded video is very funny and well done. Samsung seems to have snatched away the hip humor advantage Apple thought it had.

Apple is now stuffy, litigious, and humorless.

why is it unreasonable to ask someone to back up their claims?

Depends how you look at it. Samsung has been running an entirely different type of ad campaign. They run what are basically attack ads clearly directed at the iPhone. Apple's ad campaigns tend to focus more on their own product.

There is a long list of things the iPhone can't do. I suggest using "Apple Search" to do some research.

A few examples are: view a list of running programs and go to that program, active (live) backgrounds, widgets, free contacts in the cloud, turn-by-turn navigation, replaceable battery, full speech-to-text integration, NFC transfer.
....
Just to name a few.

Those are all things Google invented and implemented in Android 4 but Apple still hasn't been able to make work. Apple has been playing catch up for the last year.

Brian, is it really that hard to do some research or googling?? :redbrick:

iPhone 5 has a state of the art display (world's first), a super A6 chip that kills everything now and near future (far superior to your iPhone), totally different design & manufacturing (aluminum unibody carved out), Gorilla glass 2, much better front camera, LTE, different antennas, 3 mics, etc.. The ONLY thing that carried over somewhat is the rear 8MP camera. That's it dude. I am not sure how different does it have to be! WTF?!

Let me ask you this...what does it take for you to see the difference? Would you appreciate it better if this guy says that iPhone 5 is from another world:

Dusty Dusty, when are you going to bring an argument to the table? Why is it that when someone defends iPhones against stupidity, they are iSheeps or fanboys? But, when Android owners make uneducated dumbass statements, then they are somehow legit?

You do realize that only stupid people resort to cheap shots when they have nothing intelligent to say. I am not saying you, but in general.

Blogs? Sorry, i don't post random blogs. Koz does that. You need to look closer at my sources. Thanks.

4G. You must be on Sprint, like me. I know that you know this, but just want to clarify...your 4G is by WiMax, which is either bankrupt or on the verge of such. Your 4G is NOT 4G...it is merely 3G+. LTE is a whole new ball game. Sprint stop making WiMax towers...that technology (like FLASH) is dead. Nada. No more. LTE in the smartphones only got popular within the past year, mostly on Verizon network. So, no, your EVO 4G technology is far from special nor is it the same as today's 4G. Like Brian, please do your googling before posting. Thx.

There is nothing in the EVO that anyone want on a new phone. Why would you want to merge a phone with at least 3 generation old technology with another 2 generation old tech?? That would just produce more Android crap.

Sorry, if i only had to make & receive calls/texts, then i rather go with my old trusty phone (Sanyo SCP-7050). That thing can get signal from an Afgan cave! And still be more durable than AK-47! Why would i want an old smartphone with software that is no longer supported? Sorry, Sanyo for me.

(BTW, i recently sold my Sanyo SCP7050 for $160, which is more than what Sprint would give for a Galaxy S3.)

Apple is now stuffy, litigious, and humorless.

Samsung sued Apple over smilies in texts. Want to talk about being petty?

Brian, you need to read the iPhone 5 thread...and educate yourself on your gross misunderstandings.

Double tap on home button. This pulls up all active apps. The difference here is that iOS pulls an app on standby when you exit. So, you can open a million apps and the phone is still smooth and no battery is loss. Same with websites. On Android, you guys need AppKiller...and even the new softwares (ICS & JB) don't really close out an app or website when you exit...letting FLASH or a defective app eat up battery.

Live background/widgets = battery sucking (and thus why FLASH is the same way) Cool no doubt, but no thanks! I had to turn off all widgets and active backgrounds to get thru half the day!

iCloud does all that and more! And with iTunes, you can get a new iPhone and make an exact duplicate of the old phone, down to the settings and preferences.

Replaceable battery. Has your Li-ion gone bad? No. Li-ion last a long freaking time and has no memory. Read up on it. Replaceable battery on Android is done for TWO reasons: 1. Android software inefficiencies result in battery sucking, thus need backup battery; and 2. to reboot the damn thing when it crashes weekly. (and that is why you have those cheap ass plastic covers to peel off with your fingernails!)

NFC...yeah, i see those are real popular these days! :D Read iPHone 5 thread...NFC is not supported by many and faces real competition from ATT, Verizon, and TMo.

Navigation...you're right. But, give Apple 6 months...there is a reason why Google itself within the past 3 months is scrambling to improve its maps at record pace...they know that Apple is chasing them.

Here is my post from another thread:
iPhone weaknesses:
1. Maps...kinda obvious.
2. You can't get it cheap 3 months after release...basically, the only time that you will see discounts on iPhones is at the end of one year period when the next iPhone is coming out.
3. Limited customization. (But still better than Windows!)
4. No widgets
5. Small screen if you like big ones
6. No live fish tank background :D
7. No variation of the product; e.g. hard keyboard for example (loved that about my Samsung Epic)
8. Comes out once a year
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Real world advantages? RELIABLE. It does what it advertises (exception being Maps...for now). No crashes. No stuttering. SECURITY. No need for Lookout app, no need for anti-virus app, no need for AppKiller. And this is why businesses are replacing their Blackberries with iPhones/iPads. TONS OF APP SELECTION. No comparison there. CUSTOMER CARE. Apple stores are usually very accomodating. ACCESSORY SUPPORT. Tons of stuff for Apple products ranging from headphones to BT stereo equipment. BATTERY LIFE. No need for 2nd set of batteries to carry around (or chargers).

My wife loves the iPhone now because for the first time, she does not need a charger to carry. Her texting has improved on the iPhone due to better letter spacing and auto-correct. Jellybean autocorrect or suggestions were horrible and intrusive!

My wife is non-techy and, like me, went Android first because the phone was cheaper (my wife will always choose the economical choice). She hated ICS...destroyed her phone! Battery issue became a constant hassle. Gingerbread (2.3) was more logical for her.

As for MAPS, give Apple 6-8 months...i bet that Apple will be competitive with Google with Maps.

At least with Android you get the choice to have those features. With iPhone the features simply don't exist.

The interface on the iPhone still looks and feels the same as it did 4 years ago. Try out an android running 4.1 it really is very different.

Different because Android still has not found the sweet spot that unifies their OS. Why do you think that they went back to the drawing board with ICS? So what if iOS looks the same?! Why change what is not broken?

There are plenty of members here that love the 3rd gen 4runner and hated the changes made to the new 4runners. Why do you think that is so?

No they have found it. With Google everything works and is unified.

I encourage people to try out an Android ICS or 4.1 phone. You won't go back.

To be honest, my wife actually liked 2.3 the best. Gingerbread was more logical to use...maybe more friendly to non-techies. For example, to edit a Contact, it is painful in ICS/JB because you have to tap on open spaces (e.g. picture of contact) to open another menu or something like that. (I don't have it in front of me.) There is no logic behind it. The problem is that you have to find out stuff on ICS/JB randomly and then remember the sequence for next time around.

In contrast, on Apple iOS, you click a Contact...and there is an EDIT virtual button right there. Easy to see, easy to use for beginners. There are virtual buttons for BACK, send message, facetime, share, and add to favorites. All there for you to see and pick. There is no guessing what this or that does. Press Home to get out. Simple.

How about Favorites or speed dial? It's easy to do on iOS. ICS took away Favorites (on the phone app) from Gingerbread. Why?! You now have Favorites on your Contact app. WTF?! Why must you have to use TWO apps for contacts and phone to make a call from favorites?? And each one has unique features that are NOT shared.

On iOS, there is a Phone app and Contact app. BUT, you don't need to ever touch Contact app because everything can be done with the Phone app.

These are just examples of user friendliness that is lacking in ICS/JB. So, let me ask you, why would Apple change this?? Why would Apple destroy their years of user friendliness and start from scratch...just because it's cool to do so or just to be different??

Why do you think Rolex has kept the same design for decades? Why do you think that the G-wagen has kept the same design for decades? If it works, then it works. No need to change it. Android reminds me of GM...lets change for the sake of change...and lets do it often!

Apple got the ball rolling.

And before you say they were justified, you might want to read this dissection of the what happens when fanboys infect juries.

Groklaw - Jury in Apple v. Samsung Goofed, Damages Reduced -- Uh Oh. What's Wrong With this Picture? ~pj Updated 5Xs

I am no lawyer. I don't really care. Apple has the money to do whatever they want. But, to say that these lawsuits are one-sided, i think that you're bias against Apple. Take a look at the lawsuit diagrams...everyone is suing everyone. Lawsuits didn't just happen recently...it didn't just start with Apple. Yes, Apple lawsuits get the public attention because they are Apple...kinda like Toyota crap gets front page news because Toyota is Toyota.

Whatever the case, i went with the superior product. I tried the other side FIRST and gave it almost two years...and finally went Apple in November.

Put an Apple iPhone next to an Android and ask an independent person which is worth $600, which do you think will win?

Lol. What?

Free contacts in the cloud, list of running programs, turn by turn navigation, speech to text. All things that you CAN do on iPhone. I feel like I"m beating my head against a wall with these android folks. Claim after claim about things the iPhone can't do and they are always wrong.
