"iPod Charde Error" when plugging iPhone into T1809

I installed a T1809 in my 2005 4runner a few years ago and I have been meaning to ask this question forever. With the T1809 I also purchased the black chord off of eBay that plugs into the back of the head unit for my iPhone 5. When I plug in my phone the head unit reads "iPod Charge Error" and the music on my phone will not play through the head unit. I don't care if it charges my phone but I would like to listen to music on my phone. Any ideas on how to get this to work properly? It is the whole reason I purchased the head unit in the first place. Thanks!

Do you have the same issues with a genuine iPhone cord? I has issues with one of the Chinese iPhone cords I bought on eBay. But works perfect with the genuine cord

I agree with the above, if it is not a i-phone product it will give you a warning. One of my knock offs would not stream music, and fell apart very quickly.

Go on line to the Apple store, then apple accessories. You can check out all the adapters or cords you may need. I think you might be looking for the i-pod adapter.

If you are using an i-phone 5 or 5s yes. I do not know if ipods have the lightning connection.
