Is a Grand Cherokee a Jeep?

My only gripe was with our QuadraDrive system - basically three electronically controlled limited-slip slushboxes. From personal experience, I can assure you that it is a one-wheel-drive system. I have video evidence of this.

What do you mean, "one-wheel-drive system"?? Are you saying that if one wheel is slipping, the Jeep cannot move forward??

That's exactly what has happened to me a few times, but only in the most extreme stucks. Usually it goes quite well, especially on ice, but if you're stuck in the mud, sand, or rocks, QuadraDrive does not cut it. They should not call those diffs "limited slip" in good conscience.

Well, i think that the link above by me to another thread supports your experience. QD is no better than ATRAC or other LSD devices. The only problem is the false advertisement by Jeep saying that QD is a true locker-like system, capable of sending 100% of power to one wheel. It clearly is not.

If the QD can lock the center diff, wouldn't it at least be a 2-wheel-peel-system like the 4Runner?

The center diff does not lock. I believe Jeep claims the center diff is limited slip, but I have video on two occasions of stucks where only one wheel is spinning.

I was in a cross-axle situation a few days ago and was stuck until I used the RR DIFF LOCK button and easily found my way out. I'm glad I have a true locker.

Fortunately, 4runner's ATRAC system can get through a cross-axle situation as well (from personal experience on my old '02 4runner)...not as smooth as with a locker, but still able to. It will do it with more noise and small jerky movements due to ABS pulsing the spinning wheels.
