Service engine and flashing 4lo lights, limp mode/ no throttle response: P2127 code?

Hi all,

Never had anything like this happen before and looking for any input the hive can offer!

Came out from a store after 6 on Friday (of course on a holiday weekend) and she started right up, though before I made it out of the parking lot I lost throttle response (which I’m guessing is limp mode) so I look down and see my dash warning lights going nuts, most notably the service engine light and the 4lo indicator was flashing.

Limped into a spot and shut her down and spent ten minutes trying to see what the service manual had to say, which was as essentially “don’t drive it, take it to a service center”. Happily there was an Advance Auto across the street so I started her up and gently drove over to have them read the codes for me. It showed P2127. I asked him to clear it and he tried but said their reader wasn’t able to, it required Techstream to do so….

After a bit I figured I’d limp home and deal with it on Tuesday but she started up without any codes or issues and drove home just fine. Haven’t started her since.

The only two contributing factors I can think of are a) the sprint booster that’s been trouble free for several years; and b) my skid plate has been off for a few weeks as the place that changed my oil stripped a few bolts and at least one was broken off in the frame. Have an appointment on Friday to have those drilled and tapped, though I’m wondering if rain water on the highway could’ve made its way somewhere it wouldn’t have if the skid was on…

Has anyone ever had that code before? Should I be concerned even though it cleared and didn’t come back on the hilly 15 mile drive home?

Not sure what to tell you other than I don't think the skid plate missing would have anything to do with that code...but the sprint booster if going bad or have a bad connection could surely have something to do with that code.

If it happens again I would try removing the sprint booster and see if the issue instantly goes away, if not my next step would be replace the throttle sending unit at the pedal.

Thanks AuSeeker ! If it happens again disconnecting the sprint booster and seeing what happens is exactly what I had planned, and I very much appreciate hearing that water is not very likely the issue… and replacing the sending unit first sounds like a good course of action

A lot of users myself included have had a similar code, P2121, with pedal commanders. If you search p2121 or look at the threads on here you will find some good info.

If you cant eliminate the code you should toss the unit or go to support for replacement. Limp mode can become very dangerous in some situations.
