Is an instrument needed to hold 07 4Runner V6 SR5’s memory while a battery is changed

Is an instrument needed to hold a 07 4Runner V6 SR5’s memory while a battery is changed? IMO the computer’s battery will hold vital needs. I was told by a local chain the Runner possibly w/n hold it’s programming w/o their holding system while changing the Battery (that d/n hold the time). A 15.00 install charge vs me changing the battery. After the purchase, I learned there is a 15.00 charge to replace their Battery if it fails while in warranty. Their point is the labor it takes to change the battery.

I feel it was the original white Panasonic that I purchased 12/24/10.

Maybe a tech can chime in. I am no tech but that sounds really dumb. What vitals are you talking about? Labor to change a battery is their way of getting 15 dollars out of you. Even with our newer vehicle I'd just buy the battery have it tested then take it home and install it. After that let it run for 5 minutes to re-learn it's idle. Only vitals I think you will lose will be the radio presets and time.

I totally understand where you are coming from when asking this question. My previous Audi mechanic, plugged in a little device(My memory, or lack thereof is preventing me from remembering what the device is called) into the cigarette lighter while he worked in the engine bay/battery/Coil Packs/Wiring harness. That way, the car would maintain it's electronic Memory(I know Ironic lol) Including the ECUs.

Yep, you can plug a battery pack into the lighter to keep the memory on the radio and ecm on cars. Im wondering if it will work on a Runner because the plug doesnt stay hot all of the time. Only key on.
