Is it possible to make a 2wd truly offroad capable?

Yes Thai....that is what I am getting but not right now...I am gonna wait until 2011 and if everything is going fine by then (I hope)....I will get a 5th gen Trail Edition. I am just curious about all these info. I am not trying to convert my current ride and not even considering on selling her....I love her. ...lol

I know this is an older post, but I have a guy with a 2WD 4th gen 4Runner. Would a 3/2 Cornfed spacer lift work on a 2wd? I've only ever installed them on 4wd 4th gens, and have never actually seen a 2wd. Will this lift work on the 2wd?

SAS 2wd? how would that even work? hollow front axel? and SAS is EXPENSIVE. pretty much just done by hardcore/kind of hardcore wheelers. but with lift, tires, and locker, you should be able to get where you are going.

Just an update, we did a 3/2 Cornfed install on a 2wd 4th gen, and smooth sailing...

I'm wondering if he meant a 4WD conversion with a SAS? Otherwise that just sounds stupid.

Mine may not be a 4WD, but it is pretty capable for what it is. The limited slip really makes that a reality.

Plus, while I know it was a much more costly route, I've decided I'd rather make mine a V6 and/or 4WD by buying a donor wreck than buy another 4Runner.

That's mainly for sentimental reasons, and I don't care that it costs more, because I love my 4Runner. I think it would be all the much more impressive to be able to say, yeah, I swapped both V6 and 4WD in.

I would, though, sell and buy another, in JAC's case, because nothing has been done past the point of no return. If I sold my 4Runner, I'd lose way too much money and effort that I won't get back.

The 4WD swap would make one hell of a build, but it's been done. Just need to find me a donor

ya i think 4wd is more capable no question about that but 2wd is more capable then most of the 4wd would give credit for... 2wd has its limit to what it can do but it still can provide lots of fun. I think the main thing to remember is the driver has to be smart about the way they drive through their obstacles bc ive seen many ppl get stuck from not paying attention closely to the smarter paths or ways to maneuver.

I have taken my 2wd mudding/offroading and some light wheeling though ive been stuck before, everyone gets stuck and thats wat friends are for. I do plan to do a 4wd swap also down the line but im in no rush since it is costly and this is still my DD so i cant tear it up too badly.
