Is it the time to upgrade?

Thinking of selling my 1999 Sport 4Runner 4X4 with 130k on it. The book is $7k and I have a guy that will give me 8K. I am having to drive more now that my mother lost her license. 300 miles every thursday. The miles and wear and tear are racking up and the price is going down. I have had it for 8 yrs
I want to upgrade to 2006 Sport Edition 4X4 and want to pay up to $16k.
My dilemma is sell now and pay 1/2 for a newer or use mine for a few more years and who knows what it will drop too with all the extra miles?
The price of used vehicles is up almost 30% now and they say its going to get worst. I think now is the time.
I would love to have a automatic for a change and the 4.0 liter, 245 hp and better gas millage to boot. I need new tires now and cvc boots need replacing. The buyer know that. So I don’t want to spend $1000 if I am going to sell.
What to do.

If I was thinking about selling, and had a guy offer more than I was expecting to get for it. I would sell.

Just be sure you are able to get the extra 8k for the new 4th gen, before you get rid of this one.
 
I loved my 3rd gen, but never realized just how aged it was until I stepped up to the 4th gen. Now, I absolutely LOVE my 4th gen. It is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. Don't get me wrong, I liked the simplicity of the 3rd gen, but the styling and creature comforts were just really showing their age.

I do hope to have another 3rd gen trail rig one day, though. :)

I say go for the 4th gen if you can get rid of your 3rd for a decent price. That's the reason I sold mine.
 
Thanks guys... I have the other 8K, the problem is finding one in the price range that doesn't have anything wrong with it.
I looked at one today and luckily had it check by toyota.
They advised me to look elsewhere.
Apparently the guy had put a ’07 FJ Cruiser motor in it from a friends junk yard
after his wife cracked the block running it with no water.
The oil pan was seeping among compatibility issues and no maintenance (all the fluids were dirty)
looked good in the low light photos (see link) but close up was a different story...
torn carpet form the drivers foot all the way down to the metal, scratches on every corner.
But I hear yah it was so smooth driving...night & day.
I see he listed it again: 2003 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5 SPORT
 
Take it to a collision center/shop concerning the dent on the pillar. Get an estimate or two to fix. Add that to your price off the total he is asking. If it was $6,000, I'd say why worry but $16,000 is another ball game.

Word of used car buying advice: just ask to see before countering with an offer. And as Rip said, get the 8G in hand first.

Hmmm. I've seen this ad numerous times. No wonder why he was asking only $10,500. I always question those too good to be true listings.

I was getting 20MPG average on stock 265/65/17 Duelers but then I ruined my V8 MPGs by upgrading to oversized mud terrains, lol. Totally worth it, though. :D
 
kind of rare to find a sport 4x4 around here. I seen 2 in the last 3 months and I wasn’t quick enough. don’t want a V8 all time.
 
You only have 130K on it and that's nothing for a 3rd gen. Put a little money into changing the fluids and anything else that might need some attention and drive the hell out of it!

That's a lot cheaper than a newer 4runner. Your 3rd gen will depreciate a little bit over time, but not near as much as your new one will cost. And the new one will depreciate once you start putting miles on it too.
 
Changed all he fluids when I had the timing belt/water pump done @ 100k. I give it what ever it needs.
If I sell now I will be paying 1/2 price for a 4th gen, drive the hell out of it and we are looking at full price for a newer one. Don’t know if I will have the dough in the future considering how the economy is going and everything is going up and your getting less.
Is this logical or am I on some kind of 4th gen trip because I just drove a couple this week?
 
Its basically is sold, he gave me a $100 deposit to show he serious and we have been in touch with emails. He asked if I still had the metal plate for the back so it sound like he doesn't want the spoiler. So sure I would sell it to ya.
