Runs great.
Brand new battery.
Tires great condition; 75% tread. Awesome for off roading or just as an everyday driver.
Super charger installed as well.

Mild body damage from a fender bender on the passenger side, doesn't affect driving ability at all. Easy fix, just haven't had time.

it's a Limited 1999 with no e-locker and dealer install supercharger.
it has 200k miles (or close enough)
cali emissions, but I live in AZ, so no worries.

IMO, leaning towards getting down to 4000 or less.

That front end is a couple hundred bucks plus paint, assuming that everything is straight underneath. Oil on the cone probably means you've got a rebuild in your near future, if you're up for that. It's not very clean in general - without the supercharger I'd call that a $2500-$3000 truck around here, and even with $4000 is a stretch. With those miles and that damage, that truck smells like a project. Which is fine, just be ready and pay accordingly. I'd have a hard look at the timing belt, and take compression numbers.

And why does it probably need a rear axle?

I like it for the $4k offer! Even if negotiated to mid-point, I'd take it after a short (fun) test drive. I'd sure look forward to those extra HPs on mountain passes!! Luck and enjoy! :cowboy:

Just the trim on the fender is all I need for this truck
I'd switch the bumpers and modify this one for larger tires for my 4runner until I get my CBI.
I agree on the truck price as a national 'avg' price, but in AZ it's an aggressive market and it's 'under' southwest avg if I can get around 4k

the rear axle is as I've always had to replace the axle bearings... I just expect it now.

Yikes. Something doesn't seem right. Couple of insights:

• Don't let the SC cloud your judgment.
• Would you think about purchasing this without the SC?
• SC is a good indication of a potentially harder driven vehicle than a stock one.
• Personally I would NEVER buy a vehicle with an SC. I will install it myself.
• How is the SC (ECU) tuned or is it tuned? You've been on the site long enough to know you must tune these correctly to prevent engine damage.
• Interior carpet, drivers side worn, not the mats. (Look at that dark area)
• After market radio and big woofers in the back = younger owner. (Not always, but those are higher on the priority list than regular maintenance)
• Front end damage is more extensive than a fender flare. Headlight is off kilter, hood and rt corner panel don't match up correctly, front grill has damage.

Honestly, I think you can do better.

EDIT: I say NEVER but...it all depends on how much I know about the owner, vehicle etc....

yeah, I've been mulling it over... I've been coming to the same consensus...
scheduled to see it tomorrow evening... I'm leaning to offer 2500 and no more than 3k... it's just not worth it to me otherwise. it will take some maintenance, I'm sure.

that thing is totaled, I offered parts car price, he declined.

so, accident happened at 75mph and he was tailgating a full size 2015 dodge truck in rush hour. the dodge tapped the brakes and he hit hard... the pictures show superficial dmg. the true dmg is the frame, the passenger side is push back and the front frame pushed up, the body is twisted on the frame, and it shows in person, it has a inch lean in the rear, and the springs just dont' sit right...

it's a parts car, it should not be driven on the road. I have a mech that could straighten the frame for $200 (so he says') but I'm possitive that's just the beginning of the issues it has.

it also has a whole front clip job, looks like the work was done along time ago... didn't look at title, I'm sure it said restored.

was it worth checking out? I think so, people need to know.

Seller and I got to talking/texting, he's willing to let it go for 3200 I'm sure he'll take 2800 cash if I wave it in front of him... Should I even get the truck snag the super and resell it? Is it even worth it? I'm sure I can part it out and make back a profit but it'll be sitting a while. What do you all think? As it is its unsafe to drive, got a bud mechanic that might go in with me and he'll take what I leave behind. Idk, it seems like an ok deal but wanted all your opinions

I'd pass on this one. If I was to part it out I'd want the price $1500 or lower especially since this one has frame damage. Frame damage repairs always cost more than estimated $200?.....Yeah right. I have no idea how bad it is without seeing but I would expect anywhere from $500-$1000 just to fix the frame. If you get at $2800 then your in it for $3300-$3800 without fixing the front clip and even then it will never be the same. I bought a frame damaged 4Runner (my 98) but all I'm gonna do to it is fix the front clip put a big ol' I-beam for a front bumper on it and drive it till it dies then part it out.

I'd ask if I could buy the supercharger and he can keep the 4Runner and that'd be about it.

Superchargers cost about $2000 used off the engine. They are much cheaper to buy on it. If you think the rest of the vehicle is worth $1200 then go for it, but with the damage it has I'm not sure. You could probably sell the wheels & tires pretty easy but the rest of it you might be stuck with at a loss.

Hard lesson I have learned.... NEVER NEVER NEVER buy someone else's project. You never know what kind of half @ssed repairs, maint, mods were done to that thing. If all you want is the SC and its not e-locked... you wont get part money for much else. I would say hard pass on this one. Best of luck to you!

Well, I put an open offer... if he decides to let it go, I'll take the SC.. figure I'll pay that price at a local junk yard for just that. then junk/part the truck best I can.

I deal in surplus IT equipment.

People selling stuff (especially those that don't understand the value of time or knowledge) want to sell it to you for what they think you can get out of it.

Somebody that says "Well, it'll sell for $1500 as scrap plus $2000 for the supercharger used, so I'll sell it to you for $3500" is essentially declaring your time to be worthless.

There are two knocks against this truck. It's super-charged (hard-driven), and likely requires a rebuild; it's also been totaled out. These two problems indicate there are likely further problems lurking that haven't yet been identified. Even if the s/c is worth $2,000 used, it still represents a lot of hours of wrenching, eBay listings, etc.

I wouldn't pay more than 10% above whatever the local scrapyard is paying for 4Runners. My Runner set me back $4200 5 years ago; the dealership I bought my wife's car at a month ago offered me $3500 trade on it.

I'd pass. Better vehicles at your desired price point are available.
