Is the E-locker switch itself supposed to illuminate?

I was replacing some dash and switch bulbs the other day and I noticed there's a bulb (A3 I believe) in the rear diff lock switch but it doesn't illuminate at any time. I even replaced the bulb with a known good bulb and still no illumination when I had the parking or headlights turned on. I even engaged the diff lock and got the light on the dash but nothing on the switch. There's only two wires going to the switch so maybe I'm missing one for the illumination or something?

Huh, I didn't know there was a bulb in it. Mine doesn't light up, and neither have any others I've seen. My old rig, my sisters rig, and my friends rig are all e-locked, and none of them do.

It doesn't, but it can! I saw a write-up on it somewhere, on another forum. I think you have to wire it into the light on your dash that indicates the E-locker is engaged.

I've never seen my *stock* switch light up... Be interested in looking at it. Weird they would put a bulb back there that doesn't do anything.

Im pretty sure they light up in Tacomas. Apparently the harness on the 4runner has the pin locations for the light wiring, but the pins were never installed in the harness. A guy was able to find some pins to insert into the harness and hooked them to his dash lights. One way to light it up is to get the pigtail from a tacoma switch.

The switch doesn't light up but below the fuel guage it lights up "RR DIFF LOCK" in red and the ABS light comes on due to the ABS being disengaged wehn the locker is in use.
