Is the Prius Bad for the Environment vs. a Hummer?

Actually, i care more about fuel economy and fuel cost savings. Come on, you actually think that, all of a sudden, i have gone green on you guys?!! For the past 6 years, i owned one of the thirstiest car on the planet...a heaping chunk of dense metal that drinks premium gas like there's no tomorrow!

As for the FCX, it isn't exactly available at your local Honda dealership. In addition, there isn't many fueling stations popping up around my location. My commute is rather long...at least 70 miles round trip daily...mostly highways. This effectively has ruled out the upcoming Nissan Leaf. I much rather have a vehicle that i can fuel anywhere with cheap gas, serviced anywhere (aka local Toyota dealerships), and a comfortable practical ride that won't make me nervous on long trips (e.g. concern where the next fueling station is). And to date, the Prius is the only vehicle that truly satisfies my needs.

You are right, IIRC there is a few stations in LA, and 1 near me outside of White Plains Above NYC, and not many others. At the Moment they are a cool idea but the technology and support isnt fully here. But yes we have a diesel for the same reason fuel economy not green factor.

Hmmm....interesting. For some reason, I doubt there are too many people in this forum who seem overly concerned about being "green". It seems a bit hypocritical for 4Runner owners/enthusiasts to have a lot of concern in that area.

This doesn't seem to be such a hot topic after being posted all day. My guess is this type of thread would get a much better response (by people who really care) on a Prius forum or a forum that really supports green technologies.

I own a 4Runner and I am concerned about green technology. I also don't think that just owning a vehicle that consumes a lot of fuel automatically makes you "un-green" (for want of a better term).

My father has a Suburban, necessary to carry 2 adults, 2 kids, 4 dogs and guns to "the land" and to pull a trailer with grill and large commercial mower for keeping the grasses somewhat in check. I guess he's a gas hog even if he drives an early 90's Mirage to work.:redbrick:

Oh, and BTW, that same Suburban (with a 460, not a wimpy little 350!), fully loaded and pulling a small but fully loaded trailer, got 10mpg going 80mph, vs about 12 at best for similar situation (but less space, so less stuff moved) with my previous 4Runner, a 94 with V6 and 5speed. So, if you need the size and power, sometimes bigger is a more efficient solution. [Edit: Actually not the same since the Runner wasn't comfortable at much over 70 with the trailer, so slower and used almost as much gas while transporting less.]

the prius is a great car as far as gas milege but the nickel that goes into the batteries and the other chemicals that go into it is worse than a range rover, hummer etc, so it all depends on how you look at it, good gas milege but bad in the pollution on making it, still a cool car though

Did you even read the links posted above??!! Your "assumptions" are wrong and poorly informed.
