Is there a problem sending private messages??

Yesterday, I responded to a private message from another forum user. Today, my sent-messages box says I have 0 sent messages, and there does not appear to be any conversation between us.

I just attempted to send another message, and the result is the same.

its a setting

It's configurable in the user control panel. I learned how to change it so sent messages appear in this thread:

Sorry to bump this and hopefully a mod reads this but why is this not automatically set to save sent messages?
