is there anyway to improve the comfortability of the seat...

i have never heard of anyone taking a vehicle for a test drive for up to 3 or more hours and putting that kind of mileage on a used vehicle. my father and grandfather owned two dealerships and if anyone took a vehicle for that long the police would be called.

And as far as the comfort goes, the seat material isn't my complaint. Mine is that they designed these trucks like cars. You sit down low on the floor and lean back. You don't sit high and upright in these like other trucks (unless you want to drive with your head sideways). It's stupid. The Tacoma is just as bad.

I will say though, the Grand Cherokees of the same vintage are worse. I test drove one of those before buying the 4R and I was like, um, no..I can't even physically drive this thing.

I can say that after adding clazio seat covers my seat became way more comfy on long rides. I used to shift from side to side to get comfortable at times, now i don't find myself doing that any more. The clazio's add about a 1/2 inch of padding. So it may be cheaper to go that rout opposed to an upholstery shop. however it depends entirely on how worn the factory cushions already are. If they are completely deteriorated it may be best to replace the padding.

I made a simple statement about how to properly test drive a vehicle. Since is it usually a persons second biggest purchase (after a home)...you should take every step to make sure it's an informed choice. If you're going to be driving long distances in this vehicle then take it on a long trip to see if it's comfortable. I bought all my SUV's over the years when there was snow on the ground so I could tell how well it'll handle in the snow. It's obvious you want to stay dumb and stupid...not everyone shares your attitude.

I know no one at the dealers. I've even taken vehicles home over the weekend. There are a couple of dealers near me that will only let me take a short drive. And I won't buy from them. And the people I know who did end up buying from them...regretted it. They were a sleaze outfit. Almost everything problem they had under warranty they had to fight to get them to fix it.

These dealers in NH ALL let us take extended drives...no hassle what-so-ever.

Rockingham Toyota in Salem NH.

Ira Lexus in Manchester NH.

Honda Barn in Salem NH.

Merchants Nissan in Concord NH.

Call them up and find out for yourself.

wow isnt that funny. i bought my 4runner from rockingham toyota 4 years ago(would not give them a nickel of my money anymore). at the time i asked them if it would be alright to take it up to Plaistow nh @ the haverhill line to show my GF the vehicle and they would not allow it to go that far on a dealer plate w/o a salesperson present.

i deal with dealers(chevy, toyota, ford etc..) everyday multiple times a day and i asked some of them today if that would be allowed. every single one laughed their butts off at someone taking a car for at least a 3hr test drive or into another state that did not border the dealership.

i am actually going to the upholstery company tomorrow to check on what can be done, i will let you know what can be done to these seats if anything.

That's where I bought my 4runner from. No salesman when with me. I drove the 4runner to Portsmouth and back. Took 495 up to Portsmouth and then 101 and 93 back. Never had a problem with the dealer...but I don't deal with them much. Never had a warranty issue...and I do 99% of all my servicing. And what I don't do (tires, alignments...and such)...I use a local garage.

Many years ago Team Nissan of Manchester wouldn't let me do a long test drive. So I didn't buy from them. But Merchants in Concord NH did. I later knew several people who bought form Team Nissan and all regretted it.

Yeah, most of the time I hear people go to upholstery shops and have the seats custom cushioned, its a bit pricey but man the types of foam and stuff they use now makes it worth it. Then again... turning your driver's seat into a Lazyboy recliner might not be that great an idea, at least for me since I like to sleep in those!

If you can get some kind of quote that would be awesome. This is in the near future to me as both sides of driver seat have the metal frame poking through the foam.

He's lucky, there have been similar cases where the guy never made it back to the dealership . Guess that's why these days , they get a copy of your driver's license
