Why not just buy an 80?

That's a valid question. None of these choices are set in stone, but the general thought was that I could sell the 5th gen and have ~$20k to spend on a DD street car, and ~$10k to spend on a 4x4. There's many choices to consider and an 80 series wouldn't be a bad one because it could still easily pull my friends boat (if I couldn't we would just use his Explorer, but for now we use my 4R).

I have loved every 4Runner I've ever owned and buy them for the long haul.

Could I sell my pristine 2015 Attitude Black TE/KDSS w/5K miles for damn near what I paid for it? Yep. Will I? No way. I love it.

As someone who has also owned two e46 M3s...you might want to set aside a cool $10k for maintenance/repairs if you really want to have fun with it. BMWs are ridiculously fun to drive, but also very expensive to maintain and the newer turbo models, even more so.

I have to agree with this. I've had 20 cars, and my recently purchased T4R is the first I've bought brand new. It's so much nicer to work on your car because you want to, rather than because you need to! I sold my BMW last week. The peace of mind I have now is really unexpected. I was going to keep the Beamer as a third car, but my wife wasn't thrilled about the idea, and it's nice to have the extra spot in the driveway. I'm happy now that it's gone, although I loved driving it. She had a Highlander for over 10 years, and put as much money in to repairs/maintenance in a decade as I did in any 1 year period with the BMW! That said, do what makes you happy. Just don't go broke.

Oh, and I did consider a used isF when selling the BMW. If I was to pick up a used play car, it would probably be that one. I'm just a little tall for it. Good luck!

One more thing on insurance. It's true that collision coverage for two vehicles with a combined $30k value won't be much more than a single $30k vehicle. But combined comprehensive and liability coverage will be much more. Especially a sports car and old 4x4 vs. a new SUV with modern safety features.

I think everyone at one point or another thought about two or three different vehicles for whatever use. Whatever fits your wants/needs, for me I used to be that guy and got tired of maintaining multiple vehicles. Plus I rather have one to drive vs battling myself which vehicle to drive every morning lol. I use to struggle when I had a s2k, tundra, and r1. Now it's just the 4Runner although after owning one I do have the 100 series bug. Good luck to you!

Having owned both and EVO VIII and an EVO IX and being involved in the evo/subie community, I would highly suggest you be very careful when buying used. More often than not, used evos/stis have been beat to shit, modded by some 16 yr old with no idea what they are doing and prone to give you problems relatively soon after purchase.

With that said, keep your 4runner and save your money for an m3.
