The comment I posted regarding the constant flaming was taken a little farther than I meant for it to. I have made notice of some of your comments regarding my rig, that I'm sure were meant to be said in good humor, but could easily be taken the wrong way.

Comments like the one's I've copy and pasted here are just examples:


"The front end looks a million times better now that you've got those headlights and a new front bumper.

Those old headlight covers deserve to be killed with fire"

"Safari bar.. that's it! That's another reason why it looks so much better now, no damage multiplier!"


That being said, I to respect your opinion, as we seem to have similar tastes regarding mods as of late. I however, don't wheel my truck hard, don't plan on taking it out on challenging courses, as It's really become my Sunday Driver more than anything else.

Although my post seemed to target you more than the others, the others are just as guilty for flaming Thor. I don't know how many times I read someone posting a comment like "take off those God aweful running boards" or "Who the heck uses Nerf Bars these days??"

In the end, not everybody is planning on taking their rigs on trail runs, and not everybody has a second car. For some, the 4Runner is their DD, why in the hell would they beat the crap out of it on the trail, if they need it to get to work on Monday morning??

Thor obviously has different tastes. I personally am not a fan of his rims either, but in the end....it's his rig....let's just give him the props for attempting to do his own mods??

Ah, yes. I mean those in a friendly way, as in, I love the way your truck looks now as opposed to prior. Sorry if it did not come off as intended. I assumed that you would agree with those comments, as you did remove what was mentioned. They are much like the comments I received after removing the billet grille, though you did like it.

okay i'm just gonna chime in with my own 2¢.

i'm for individuality as much as the next guy (in b4 Born This Way), but james' does indeed have a few excellent points.

these trucks are imports but they are not racing machines and aren't meant to be driven as such. yes, i'm sure we've all raced a bud or two (i know i have), but going over 90MPH in an SUV is just plain ridiculous. 4runner's (especially "lifted") have higher centers of gravity. going that fast, in that high and big of a vehicle is just asking for trouble. it doesn't matter how well you know your car, it's how well you DRIVE your car.

now chris, in my opinion, your truck looks good on the outside. i don't fancy the stickers too much, but it isn't my vehicle. however, as john and james have said, "if you're gonna do something, do it right." those wires under your hood NEED to be fixed. and as far as cookie cutters for fog hole covers... once again, not my vehicle, but i probably would have just paid the fifty or so bucks at the dealer or even tried to find some scrap ones. you can half-ass all you want but in the end it's just better to do things correctly. hell who knows, if you ever decide to sell the runner (just hypothetically), think about how half-assed mods affects your resale value.

also as far as arguing on the internet, it helps to use correct grammar and punctuation. JUST SAYIN'. if i see an argument and i see "lerk" (lurk) and "un-needed" (unnecessary), i'm gonna probably side with the person using words and sentences.

ALL IN ALL, do you what you like, do it right.

well i dont have the money to A) buy the plugs to fill the holes B) take the time to go scrapping for them C) buy the fog im missing D) all of the above because im replacing the bumper anyways

fyi its doesnt look like that under the hood now, much cleaner now, not a fire hazard because its all fused and the right wire, im going to school for electrical engineering so i honestly laugh at some of what people are saying about it

everything i have done has a purpose if you think so or not, im not going to just put a basket on and not use it because it looks "cool" or put 33" tires because they "make it cooler with big tires"

its winter so not a lot has gotten used, i will use my basket for nets and buckets and fishing and stuff like that. as for the "cheap" tires, i really need more aggressive tired because we have a cabin on a muddy river and it floods... a lot leaving the road to get in full of very bad mud and sand, often 4-LO only, and because of the many floods we have gained about 5ft of this mud in out yard leaving no grass for traction so bugger tires were needed just to get in, odds are i will be replacing them as soon as i can because honestly im not a big fan of them anyways, but they sure were a h**l of a lot better than the highway tires it came with, these were 4 almost brand new for $200 and i could not pass that up and wait for some of your girls BFG that i wouldnt get anyways

and as for the stickers i like them, i have them for me, im not going to put something on to try to impress anyone or anything like that, i bought them and wanted them on, i will say i did not know that fox was as big as it is when i ordered it

and if anyone would read i went 112 on the highway once when stock to see what it would do, and have not doing that since then because i dont know what that would to to the tires for one and wouldnt want to push my luck anymore and it needs a 6th gear and i dont like holding the RPMs that high that long

Mods that serve no purpose nor form. A high lift jack, without a lift point. It's like owning a sports car, in the woods.

I have a hi lift jack that has gotten me unstuck several times and I have no sliders or bumpers.

Jack up wheel, insert traction device, lower wheel, drive out.

Also some chain and a few hooks and you have a cheap winch.

My hi lift jack is stored in my trunk though.

Edit: And I used to leave my recovery gear in my shed when I didn't think I needed it. I got stuck in January when I didn't expect it had to walk 2 miles back to my house and then 2 miles back to my truck with my hi lift jack and 80 lbs of chain and other accessories. I don't take my gear out of my trunk now.

my 4runner drives awful, its slow, has horrible brakes, alignment is off, no sway bars, worn out synchros in the trans so it it wont go into gear sometimes, etc. the list goes on and on. Its exactly how a trail rig should be...

thor, dont worry about your tires man, i was just at the dealer two days ago and you know what i say on the show room floor!? yeah a brand new 2011 TRD tacoma with your tires on it, thats right Cooper discover S/T MAXX. and as far as you other mods, like fight man said earlier, not everyone is blessed with the know-how from day one, we all have to learn stuff, and we all learn and different speed/pace, and we all have different budgets(not all of us can own a Mercedes Benz or BMW, ect.), so do your mods at your own pace and do what you can when you can. as long as you like your truck thats cool by me. just know that when it comes down to it your rig will go farther than his.

COB you have a nice clean rig man and you have put a lot of money, time, blood, sweat, and tears into it, you like it and thats cool, its one of the nicer and cleaner trucks on the forum. you do need to stop bashing people though, you have a habit of it, you have done it to other people, even if you dont think you have. i think you dont realize it when you do. so please just take a few moments before each post and ask yourself is it really necessary for me to say "this" like this... maybe instead of making fun of his "rats nest" of a wiring job, suggest that he run his wires through a loom?, it looks cleaner and is a more subtle way of letting him know that it looks tacky and like a fire hazard. just cause you dont agree or like someones posts or mods ect doesnt mean you need to call them out on it or attack them. (i think you have been suspended for this once before not too long ago...?). please just chill out man its not the end of the world here.

just cause someone things there rig is fast/quick/peppy/spunky ect doesnt mean we all need to make fun of him. compared to my old 1985 pickups, these 4runners are fast(er), hell mine(as im sure for the most part the rest of ours are) feels just as fast as my wifes yaris(i know neither one of them is fast, i have a fast car -older Malibu that will turn high 11/low 12s in the quarter on street tires, thats fast). thor might not have ever owned or driven a vehicle thats been as new or powerful as our runners, and so for him its quite peppy, we dont know so there is no sense in bashing him or making fun of him for it. if anything id say let someone say what they want, the rest of us with more experience(thor im not trying to say you have no experience so please dont take it like that) just take it for what its worth, its talk and it shows(or at least might be a good indication) what that person knows or how mature they are. I for one would agree that taking there runner over 90 or so is not the brightest idea, although i too have done so. stuff happens fast over 80mph, you cover a lot of ground and our trucks arent lights weight and dont handle particularly good, and unless youve done the TBU your brakes poor and not up to standard. that being said someone with experience and who truly knows there truck is still taking a risk pushing it too the limit. and if you dont have the experience or the training needed doing stuff like 100+ will only get you into trouble, either with the law(least of your worries at that speed) or you could even kill yourself of my family. so please lets just dive like sane people do sane people stuff(like not fight on the internet and bash and trash each other) so we can all have nice happy motoring and wrenching days and be more inclined to help each other out.
