mine doesn't groan as loudly as it used to when it was new. I now have about 1.9K mi
think that it was actually the brakes that were groaning.
Idle is pretty strong and when shifting to move forward it wants to lung fwd - and the groaning noise was just the friction on the brakes since I usually have them lightly pressed when shifting...
anyway - the groaning is fading now that things are broken in.
how many miles are on yours?

The noise you hear when shifting from R to D is coming from the rear brakes. Mine has been doing that from day 1 and now at 50k, it's still doing it. This happens because the there isn't enough brake pressure applied to the rear versus the front. However, if you were to depress the brake pedal completely, the noise is either eliminated or reduced significantly. Another thing, I think alot of people mistake the function of the HILL START ASSIST CONTROL (HAC) for some other automakers' HILL HOLD system. HAC isn't designed to "hold" the 4R in one spot until you hit the gas. It's meant to reduce the amount/rate of rollback so it gives you more time to get on the gas.

Push down on the brake as hard as you can when shifting. This should eliminate the groan. I only notice it when I start the car in the morning and back out of my driveway when the RPM's are still up due to the truck being cold. The higher RPM's probably contribute to this as there is more force being put on the brakes. Hopefully this makes sense.
This is nothing to worry about IMO. Just a nice little groan to let you know the car doenst like standing still and that you are driving the sweetest SUV on the road!
