A little over a year ago I purchased my first 4runner and exactly on the one year anniversary I was rear ended by a distracted driver. insurance ended up totaling it so now the hunt continues for another clean 3rd gen!

Heres a pic right before the accident and a couple after the damage was done.

Dude, that sucks. Looks almost exactly like mine minus the flares. Good luck finding a replacement! Going to stick with the thundercloud?

I appreciate it man! I'll be sticking with the thundercloud unless I can find a Imperial jade highlander. Theres something about that green I really like :eyebrows:

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes...very glad to hear you're ok...and didn't get hurt!!

Did you think about buying your 4Runner back and fixing it. Don't know how many mods you've done...but some guys have done so many mods it's worth buying your rig back from the insurance company and fixing. Well, assuming there's not major fame damage. Just a thought...

If you don't mind me asking...just for informational purposes...how much money did the insurance company pay. I don't want to know what you got...if anything. Just wanted to know what they paid out for your 4Runner? Hope that's not being to personal...thanks.

Again, glad you're alright!! Good luck on your search for a new 4Runner...have fun!

When I read the title of this thread, I immediately thought it was going to be a horror story about a tire that failed. Specifically, a Goodyear tire...

Thank you very much! i'm not sure if you're familiar with copart or not. They hold auctions for totaled cars. my 4runner was sent there and should be put up for auction in the next few weeks. i'm going to try to pick it up at the auction and if i do i'll most likely start parting it out to the guys on the forum.

it was in incredible shape and there wasn't anything thing wrong at the time of the accident so i'd rather not have it sit around and rot when others can use the parts.

Because of the condition of the 4runner insurance ended up giving me about $8900 for the vehicle. they're also going to be giving me my sales tax, plate and registration fee all back as well so i'll be getting around $9000 total.

Wow, that is awesome. Sucks it totaled but glad to hear the insurance took care of you.

X2....that's awesome they gave you that much for your T4R!!

Yes, I've been on Coparts auction site before. I attempted to get registered to bib one time...but they kept saying something was wrong with my email address...Finally gave up. I heard there were good deals to be had on there.

Well,I wish you good luck on winning her back. I'll be watching the classified for parts...lol!! Again...enjoy shopping for a new one. You should be able to get a pretty nice one for that kind of money!

Thank you! I had they same problem trying to sign up through them just now, must be something with their systems. If you're able to do the live auctions then you can score some good vehicles for just a couple hundred bucks.

Keep an eye out in the classifieds in case i'm able to, if not hopefully another member can jump on it so I can buy back my tires from them haha.

Any idea if there was frame damage? For a few thousand you could buy it back, sport hood swap, aftermarket bumpers, new hatch, and have a mean 4Runner. If there's frame damage then it's a different story though...

Sorry about the accident. Looks like it was in great shape prior to that.

Question: What size tires did you have on it and did you have a lift?

That seems like a pretty fair settlement. How many miles were on it?

Also, I hope you got something for the damage to yourself out of the deal. I'm not one for scamming insurance for pain and suffering, but I got rear ended at very low speed when I was younger and was laid up for a week so I would imagine that hit hurt a little more. I didn't even exchange information with the woman who hit me it was so minor, and I was regretting that after missing a week of work!

Unfortunately I was told there was frame damage in the rear. If there wasn't that was going to be the plan, kinda sucks i was looking into getting front and rear bumpers right before the accident.

Thank you, I appreciate it! The tires were 265/75/16 duratracs and it was still on the stock 02 suspension.

I have to ask, why didn't you just keep your 4Runner and have the insurance company deduct the salvage value from the payout instead of going to bid against other people for it?

It was very fair! there was 186,000 miles on it, I was the second owner, the first had every service record from Toyota since day one. I kept all my records as well even though I only had a few in the year I had it, those 4runners really don't break!

I'll definitely be getting some more money for the doctors appointments and lost wages from work. My neck is still a little iffy right now, but at least i wasn't seriously injured! I already have all the bills and lost hours from work documented to hopefully speed up the process. I know they like to take their time handing out money!
