Seems like an awful large contract for a 4-seater vehicle. Keep in mind that does not include anything over the base vehicle. Still needs to be fitted with the commo equipment, jamming equipment, weapons systems, and extra armor (RPG Netting)... total cost is over $1 Million/ea

Why not go with an up-armored Tacoma? Start with the TRD Pro model and juice it up. Base cost $35,725 + $81,775 in upgrades = Four Military Grade Tacoma's for the price of one MATV...

Or do it with the Tundra TRD Pro $41,385 Base cost...

Tacoma = way better mobility, way better reliability, way better fuel economy, way easier exit/entry, way more affordable...

I guess that makes too much sense.

I don't think there is any way you could build a Tacoma or a Tundra that could handle the weight of all of the armor and gear.

I would think they could build them for less than $1 million a piece. This is coming from the folks that buy $436 hammers however.

There's no way that the Tacoma drivetrain can turn those tires without being destroyed on any terrain other than a graded dirt road.

This is the biggest reason they went with the Oshkoshb'gosh. More protection over the existing Hummers.

That vehicle will be filling a different role which will acomadate the mission for all branches. Other vehicles like Tacomas *cough* Hilux *cough* are already used for specific AOR and mission sets, which will never change.

True but IED's can knock out M1 tanks, strykers, and Bradleys... if it rolls it can be knocked out no matter how big or armored. The advantage of a smaller more mobile vehicle is the wider avenues of approach/not being restricted to the limited terrain that can support such a monstrosity. Also, primitive technology allows them to create IED's that will not set off when a standard vehicle crosses over but will be triggerd when the 30 ton MATV drives over it.

There are pro's and con's to both concepts. Big and bulky, small and mobile.

Its the equivalent argument to wearing IOTV, knee pads, elbow pads, gloves, blast diaper, neck guard, helmet, eye pro, etc... at what point does all that "protection" start limiting effectiveness...


You could put a vhull on the bottom of a lifted tacoma. Just the cab.

But yes, they do look cool.
