Itsdchz- 2015 SR5-P Build Thread

Great looking ride, I really like those wheels. Curious, why did you change tires? I didn't see it mentioned in this thread.

Keep the pics and info coming! I'm slacking on mine ha

I changed the tires 2 weeks ago. During the last rain, I felt very uneasy after skidding a few times at stop lights and losing traction on turns. The BFG's were not good for me on wet pavement, and I figured it would be worse as they aged.

Americas tire returned the BFGs and gave me the Duratracs in place of them. So far I'm much happier with the ride and grip. They are a tad noisier, which honestly I like, as I had MTs on my FJ.

Thank you for the compliments!

Bfg's are crap in anything wet. My neighbor just got the ko2's after having duratracs and he said he sliding and slipping all over the place on em.

Thanks for the thoughts and info! Reason I asked, I had Duratracs on my F350 and I absolutely loved them, but wasn't sure how they translated to the much lighter 4Runner I replaced it with. I just happed to notice the tread pattern change in your pics so figured I'd ask.

Good eye. The weight of the Duratracs were exactly the same as the BFG, so at that point I was willing to try them, as I really felt unsafe. Happy I did!

Loving the build. I'm inspired and running out of money already in my mind...lol. Can you share the offset of the wheels? I like the stance and want the same for my '15 sr5 prem.

anytime itsdchz...props where they are due.

the thing about these trucks that i have been pondering and enjoy seeing you guys do, is that I have the very same vehicle without the mods and i think to myself "how capable is MY truck to the other levels - TE, LE, & TRD?" I know what its missing (crawl control, center diff, lockable rear or center) but what i wonder, hope, read, is that the underpinnings are all very close. the 4WD system works the same, the suspensions are only a step away, the core structure is exactly the same, one to another. I know i wont be using my truck to do anything close to what someone like you will. But its great to know that what i have is worth having and keeping, since guys like you trust it to use it as the start of a wonderful build vs. buying one of the higher level'd versions. Toyo has given us a rig that, at its simplest form, is as rugged as 90% of everything else out there...then once you start to mod it, it becomes that much more capable.

it verifies my purchase even more.

Man... This is an amazing, logical, and well said post. Thank you for your thoughts, kind words, and awesome articulation of the T4R. I really hope many people considering a T4R see it from your perspective. Cheers to you, and please keep us posted of your rigs journey!

Lower Valance

How did you install the lower valance?
Did you cut slots into the bumper or just use double sided tape?
Looking at adding this to my SR5 Premium

Lower valence lightly sanded, prepped with adhesive promoter, 3 coats, and 5 coats duplicolor bumper restore.

Nice build. Can you give me the brand/info on the brackets holding the rear lights on the rack. I'm also going to change out my 32" for a 40 or 42" I've had that 32" for years and never had an issue with it. Again, great job on the build.

Details on the trailer. How the 4Runner do pulling it. How many does it sleep?

Trailer is a Pacific Coachworks Seaside model 2250. We opted for one without the slide to get the most interior space without the weight of a slide. I do miss the slide in the RPOD, but honestly the weight would have put me in that white knuckle zone. Dry the trailer is 4420lbs. With the airlift, 10% better load springs and weight distribution hitch, it tows surprising well. You can feel the weight and the the sway a little more than the RPOD, but honestly, it pulls it very, very well. The B&M Aux transmission cooler also helps a lot. It has a triple bunk, dinette and queen bed, so 6 comfortably can sleep. The dinette maybe able to handle 2 smaller kids, for 7, but I would say 6 is reasonable. They do have another model we considered that adds a couch which can house another 1-2...

Price was right, so I decided to go from 265's to 285's

Test fit, and sure enough, slight Body Mount Rub. Having BMC done on Wednesday, and decided I couldn't wait to have them put on. Will post pics of them installed soon.

All 4 Installed WITH Certificates and Lifetime Balance/Rotate, just under $1000 PLUS I have $100 visa card coming!!

Nice build! Lots of good stuff.

Just to be clear, you had the KO's, not the KO2's. Right? Another post by someone in this thread mentioned having issues with wet traction with the KO2's. Honestly, first I've heard of that with the newest version and believe me - I've read a sh**load of reviews on the KO2's.
