I hope everyone is doing well. I still try to check the forum as much as possible. I'm on a camping trip right now.....however I'm not in the runner (she's at home with the GF). I'm not even going to divulge what I'm driving for the next few days....I would lose all credibility and I would be forced to delete my account forever. However, it is a toyota...so that counts. Enjoy the camping. I'll be off on a 3-1/2 week road-trip (camping, fall foliage) in early Oct, after a client shoot in Telluride the 2nd-5th. I, however, WILL be in my 4Runner. LOL

So I just made myself sit down and look through this entire thread and all I can say is .......WOW! :bravo::bravo: Very impressive and inspirational! In fact i'm gonna head out for a trail run in a minute and go a way different route than usual.
What mount are you using for your iPad, and how do you deal with all the sand from the beach in your truck? I'm planning on heading down to Fort Fisher in a few weeks and I'd like to try to keep the inside of my truck from looking like a sandbox.

I gave up on keeping the inside of my truck clean a long time ago. It smells terrible, it's dirty, it's dusty....you name it. However, I've been surfing all my life so there's a way to keep yourself clean and not get that much sand in your ride when you're leaving. You'll need a small tub. I just use a small Rubbermaid container and a gallon of water. Stand inside the container. Rinse yourself off. Step out of the container into your shoes. Place your wet sandy clothes in the container. Place lid on container. :mullet:
Also...don't drive down the beach with your back window down!!

I thought about getting this for the beach to wash down the kids before we put them back in the 4Runner. I haven't been able to justify it however. So far I have been using a similar trick to what you described on the beach using 4-2 liter bottles of water. Grab a kid - pour water - dry - REPEAT!
I will second not driving with the window down! Sand /dirt gets everywhere!

So, I'm currently in North Georgia awaiting a 50 mile ultra marathon (The Georgia Jewel). It's this saturday. I arrived on Monday and since then I've been exploring the Cohutta Wilderness Area, Fort Mountain State Park, Rich Mountain Wilderness Area, and the Chattahoochee National Forest. All I can say is WOW.... I've actually been here several times because the ultra marathons held in this area are one of a kind and so are the people. If you love camping, hiking, fishing, overlanding, mountain biking, or just bombing your 4runner down desolate dirt roads...you should definitely make it a point to visit this area. If you want more details, just let me know.

Its a campground specifically for MTN bikers. There are cabins etc, as well as direct access to the Pinhoti Trail.

Cohutta Wilderness is one of my favorite places for backpacking and camping. Black Creek and Pinhotti trails are my favorite trails for mtn biking. they are too much fun to ride. Try Jack River Rd where you can ford the river and FS 22 for light offroading that goes up to TN. or you can check Georgia Overland for the mapping in north georgia. Good Luck in the races!

So I just wanted to let you know that while I'm deployed this thread has been an awesome way to vicariously live the adventure life. I'm planning trips and dreaming up new ideas for my 4R because of your thread. That and it's also making it pretty hard to be away from home, thanks man. Just kiddin, this thread is just what the world needs. Good times, Great Pics, Cute Pup, Fantastic Rig. Well thought out and planned traveling leads to some of the greatest adventures and it's awesome to be able to follow you as you explore Texas! Now I just need to get the heck out of California and do some exploring of my own when I return

Well gents, I just got back from a New Mexico/West Texas trip and It was absolutely ridiculous! I've been working with a new camera (Sony A7s) which has been a little strange and has taken some time getting used to. I got away from shooting a lot of the 4runner, so on this trip I really tried to focus on getting the ride back into frame. I am about to redo my site since the number of "ok" images is getting astronomical, and I would like to share all of them. Here are a few....
