Spent the past few days on Wyoming knocking out some photo stuff. If you ever get a chance, check out Vedauwoo. I didn't have the runner, but I wish I did!
I keep looking at getting a fisheye but then I talk myself out of spending the money on a lens I wouldn't end up using a whole lot. I think they'd make some really interesting night sky shots and I really like the way your landscapes turned out. Maybe I'll look into a cheaper 3rd party brand (the only Nikon full frame fisheye is a grand) to try it out.
So happy you are posting again.Drove 5 min from my house and took this photo. :driving:

The weather has been epic in CO the past week.
A short car camping trip. The GF has been begging me to take her since I'm always camping/traveling for work. The weather has been epic in CO the past week.

The picture with the stars and the campfire in the foreground: Do you use a gradient filter to capture that? I would suspect that the light from the foreground would be too intense for the background. I am just beginning with photography. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.
Did you move out to the Boulder area? I remember you taking some photos from near where I live but didn't know you were moving out. Great photos as always![]()
J-Blick - really inspirational thread. Thanks for taking the time.
Judging by the pictures you get a lot of use out of your safari awning. Would you recommend it? Does it come out far enough to provide decent cover away from the vehicle?
I am considering a roof top tent vs a camping tent with awning like you've done. Trying to get feedback from folks that have done both. I am leaning towards the awning with a stand alone tent, just seems more practical.
J-Blick,
Just noticed you live in Colorado. My wife and I are planning a trip out there latter this year in an effort to find our next place to call home. What area are you from and how do you like it there?
My awning was useful when I was always near or on the beach. I've been in CO since Nov of last year and I haven't used it once. In fact, I removed it and I'm probably going to sell it. Like I said, it was a life saver when I was on the coast. It was usually the first thing I did after finding a camping spot. When I needed it...it was worth its weight in gold. I found that in rainy weather (no matter how angled I had it) water would collect in a corner and pool, eventually weighing one side down. It can also be a pain in the ass setting up in high winds, but eventually you'll nail down a technique and have it deployed in a minute or so. Take in consideration, I camped ALL of the time, no matter how hot/cold/windy/rainy....etc. The sun isn't as harsh here in CO, so the awning will have to go for now.
When it comes to RTTs, I'm more of a ground guy. I've spent a few nights in one (in AUS/NZD) and I wasn't impressed. I'm sure the more rigid, fiberglass ones are nice, however, my Nemo 3 person is the baddest car camping tent I've ever had and I love it. It's multifunctional, doesn't weigh 120lbs and doesn't take a small crane to get in my vehicle. With all that being said, I specifically remember a few extremely windy nights on the beach in TX and NC where I could see the sand swirling inside my tent and I remember thinking how awesome it would be to have an RTT.
Jake, Keep your old Texas buddy in mind if you decide to get rid of the awning
